How to restore my roof rack?

Hi guys. So my roof rack is the only thing on the exterior of the Expedition that looks bad. I'm thinking of just pulling the cross bars off, sanding them down and painting them black. Good idea? Any clue as to what type of paint to use? Of course it will be primed.

Thats what I would do.

I love Duplicolor spray on bedliner paint for applications like that. If the surface is prepped correctly, the stuff is as tough as nails.

It's what is on the fender flares and front bumper in the pic below.

I just took mine off for now, but hope to add a basket rack in the future.
