The repair shop told me the right hub bearing assembly had gone out on my 2003 Ford Expedition, so they are fixing it.
My other problem is when I turn left, there's a popping noise. He said he can't figure that out until the hub bear is fixed.

So does it make sense that a hub bearing would go out on a truck that's 8 years old, with 135k miles?

And any guesses as to what a popping sound would be when turning left?

I am totally at their mercy, unfortunately.

Thanks.

Their is no ryme or reason for why or when a hub bearing assembly will go out... some things can contribute to it like deep water and mud and bad alignment..

the popping noise could be one of the CV joints assuming it is a 4WD

Dont forget, its an 03. There are CV joints on the back as well. See if the popping persists after the hub replacement.

If it is while you are turning your wheel then it is probably ball joint, if it is after you turn the wheel and then start moving then it would be cv joint.

as long as they do it all in one shot...fix one...analyze the other and call you for next step possibilities

That's actually a good idea. The part cost for a CV axle will be somewhere around $125 -$150ish. Once he has the hub off, it's about another 10 minutes labor to put in a new shaft. If he puts it all back together and then has to take it all apart again to install a new half shaft, you are going to pay for the same labor twice.

Conversely, if he needs to replace the left halfshaft, have him change out the hub while he's at it.

Thanks for the input, he called & said all problems were solved when they replaced the hub bearing assembly. So I'm good to go, for now!

So glad to have this forum & so many experts!
