Bought a really nice 14 Expedition XLT back in December of 24. It had 139k miles and was really clean and ran good. I put a few hundred miles on it and got the rough idle and 15 code for the right side over retarded. Changed out the solenoids. Still got codes. Changed crank and cam sensors, still got codes. Changed the actuators and chains and noticed it had been done before and had been set up backward with the right side set up as left and left set as right. So I corrected this and put it back together. Still got the 15 code. I dropped the pan cleaned it and changed the strainer cause the old one had debris in it. Still getting codes once it gets heated up. Gauge shows oil pressure at the 3/4 mark. Next step oil pump? I like the truck but I'm getting tired of fighting this thing...

Do you have a scanner that will show VCTADVERR and VCTADVERR2? FORSCAN will, I use it on my phone. This shows the difference between where the ECU wants the cam timing to be and the actual cam timing. It should bounce around zero most of the time. If it does when cold but one side stays away from zero when hot it's probably losing oil pressure to that head when hot so the phaser can't properly control the timing.

You could also use a gauge to check your actual oil pressure before tearing into it. I *think* people remove the existing sending unit with a manual gauge to test.

The oil pump should be changed with the timing chains. Most people going to the Melling HV pump.

Just a few thoughts... good luck!

I get the sense that you've been chasing this all by yourself and have never taken it into a dealer. Might be time to take it into a dealer don't you think?

Did you replace ALL the chain hardware, or just the chain? The P0016 through P0019 codes will come up with the chain hardware is worn.
