The latest software makes much better use of the knob that is built into the 15.6 inch screen. A quick touch can bump the settings up and down, it also now puts the knob in control of the temperature or fan or seat a/c etc to easily dial it in to the exact setting you want. This was a huge improvement that loaded a couple of months ago... I liked having the knob for volume control despite having volume as one of the MANY control buttons on the steering wheel, and now being able to use that knob for much more is way better.
It’s better, but I take issue with how much better. There are still too many things that are a pain in the butt to use while driving down the road.

There is a lot to like about the Expedition overall, but the touchscreen is bad enough that i will not just automatically buy one again. And I get that many people are okay with it. Ours is my wife's daily driver and she does not complain about it. She just does not use all the features I want to use.

while all that may be true, you just described why this impacts folks differently. you have 15 vehicles, I don't even have 15 hot wheels cars. so when mine is tied up like this, I can't get the kids to soccer games/tourney's, I can't go to home depot to get materials for my home, or groceries, etc. there are different situations for different folks. So poor reliability (at least my experience) and poor service is what's pushed my away for the foreseeable future.

now having said that, yesterday there was a decent touch. after having to return mine to the dealer yesterday after their tech replaced the wrong front half shaft last week (after having it for 5.5 weeks), they delivered it to me when it was done. definitely helped keep me from having to take my wife from work or order an uber
I think there is some misunderstanding here. It takes all of my vehicles and machines to operate my business daily. If just one truck goes down I have 2-4 employees without a way to get to job sites or transport materials to those site. I used the number to say we have all different brands and that all brands suck. The most important thing you can do when reliability is top concern is to have a local dealership that will bend over backward for your business. I prefer fords over the rest because Two Rivers Ford in Nashville has given me the best service and actively seeks my business. If I lived closer to the Atlanta area I would choose GM as Southtowne Chevy in Newnan GA has given me the best service I’ve ever seen. There service manager is by far the most customer focused I’ve encountered in the car business. If you find a dealer that wants your business like these two,buy from them. I don’t care what brand it is.

I still haven't gotten the recent update to utilize the knob for climate control. I have done the ceremonial update dance 3 times around the vehicle in the recent super moon (jk), I have sacrificed ground squirrels, I have done everything I can to force an update via my modem. But nothing. If we were voting, my vote would be- I dislike the 15' screen and the need to take my eyes off the road to do a task. I guess I could use voice control like others mentioned, but not quite comfortable talking to my windshield with nobody else around. I consider myself adequately comfortable with software, but troglodyte is me.

I've been lucky with several dealers - I had a tire ruined on a trip to Nashville and Wyatt-Johnson Ford was very nice in replacing it under the tire warranty - excellent customer service. On a trip out west, I had another flat tire and Capital Ford in Santa Fe was very nice in replacing it under warranty, once again, excellent customer service. My local dealer is also very good, which is why we've stayed with them since 1987.

Folks, this thread has drifted away from the questions I asked when I started the thread.

I've used the same Ford dealer since 2003. While I've had some issues with this dealer, they've always made things right and they are only 10 minutes from my house. I may not buy from this dealer, because they may not have what I want, but I will probably get whatever new Ford I purchase serviced there. I doubt if I will be patronizing the dealers that you all are talking about. There are lots of Ford dealers in the U.S. If you don't like one, you can always find another.

My relationship with any particular Ford dealer is pretty far down the list of stupid things I might do.

Thank you for paying for depreciation on the 8 different vehicles I have owned since 1971.
Only about half of them were titled as new cars. I generally have pretty good luck with used cars, though I hate spending the time to look for them.

I hear ya. I have 3 ford dealers within 5 miles as the crow flies and I ended up buying from a dealer about 2.5 hours away, because they ended up having what I wanted, I spent 9 months watching for exactly what I wanted in a dealer demo.

When I bought the Durango, I skipped the dealers 10 minutes and 20 minutes from me and bought from a dealer an hour away. If I couldn't have made a deal with that dealer, I was prepared to go to another dealer another hour away.

I'm watching a handful of Expeditions on dealer lots. Some are an hour or more away.

My nearest Ford dealer only has two Expeditions (non-Max) right now and I'm not interested in either of them. When I bought the 2015 Expedition, that same dealer went to a dealer 6 hours away to get the one I wanted.

Didn't catch this earlier, but from this it looks like maybe you are going non-Max. I went that route and for the most part I almost regret it. When you see them side by side there isn't a whole lot of difference, and some of the reasons I didn't want the Max turned into non-issues.

I will say though, having a smidge more cargo would be very nice quite often. With the captain's chairs in the second row, if you have to put the third row down for something, it's not a good situation having stuff sliding around, especially something like a large grocery pickup. Just more overall secure room without dropping the third-row seats would come in handy in a lot of situations. Bigger gas tank would be icing on the cake for most days and definitely road trips. Something to think about and look at in your search. It's probably the one thing I'd have done differently in my purchase.

Jury is still out on this one. Many of us have the upgraded part, but it's too soon to tell. Some have the upgraded part and problems have returned.

About two years ago. I just passed 2 years of ownership on my 2019 and it had the phaser rattle when I bought it. I took it from one dealership straight to my local dealership and dropped it off. It got the upgraded part at that time. I've now doubled the mileage it had and no issues. Seems not a lot complaining about the problem coming back with the newer part that I've seen.

I thought this too, but then I realized, how often do you mess with the A/C? I set it and forget it, unless my wife messes with it, then I need to mess with it back when she gets out. If it's hard to find in the screens, perhaps she'll leave it alone? I mean, the only thing I'd mess with less is switching from mph to kph, and for some reason on mine Ford made that so easy to do it's possible to accidentally switch it. Dumb, should just bury that in a menu somewhere.
I have the 15 inch tablet display and on my screen the bottom left and right or the temperatures reach to the front seats. A simple touch of the up-and-down temperature button changes the wheel control to turn the temperature up or down so once you start you can use the wheel to adjust the temperature right away. Tapping on the “rear.” Brings up the entire HVAC controls and a tab for the front of a tab for the rear. It’s not really that difficult to use when you go to the tabs. It’s really just a slide up and down for temperature. You can always use voice control to set your temperature as well. I like the tablet display, I like the Real Estate and the size of the navigation maps

I've owned about 26 different cars in 47 years of car ownership. Eleven of them have been Fords. Two of them have been Expeditions: a 2002 XLT 4WD 5.4 that I bought used and drove about 90k miles and a 2015 XLT 4WD 3.5 Ecoboost that I bought new and drove 100k miles.

I traded the 2015 on a 2023 Dodge Durango R/T 5.7 HEMI. The Durango is a fun vehicle, but there are things that I'm beginning to dislike about it. This has lead me to start thinking about Expeditions again, specifically new 2024 models. Having seen the photos and video of the 2025 Expedition, I think the split tailgate is a good idea, but the dashboard looks hideous. There are several 2024 Expeditions on dealer lots in my area, so I just might take the plunge this fall. The "stupid" part of this is that I'm going to take a bath on the Durango as the resale value is not very good.

After reading "stuff" on social media, I have some questions about the 2024 models:

1. The 10-speed transmission. Has the CDF drum issue been resolved? I understand that there may still be some software issues affecting shift quality, but the CDF drum issue is very concerning.

2. Cam phasers. I've seen comments online that Ford has developed new cam phasers for the 3.5 Ecoboost. Approximately when did Ford switch over to the new phasers?

3. The 15.5 inch "tablet" display. I'm not a fan. But, I'm having a hard time finding an Expedition Limited non-Max that doesn't have it. The one negative that I keep hearing is that it takes multiple touches to adjust the HVAC temperature: one touch to activate the slider, then another touch to move the slider. Is that true? If it is true, I think I'd rather have discrete buttons.

4. 3.73 ELSD. Obviously, the ELSD would be an advantage in slippery conditions. My 2011 F-150 had it, but my 2015 Expedition didn't. Can't say I had a problem getting around in snow or mud with either one. My gut tells me that the 3.73 final drive would hurt fuel economy. How much?

Anything else I should worry about?

Some of the dealers I'm watching may be getting nervous about the 2024 Expeditions they have on the lot. I found one Limited with 304A that is being advertised at $8000 off sticker. Very tempting.
I use the voice control to change the temperature, I love the 15.5 inch screen but I believe it's an option and not standard except on the Platinum which is what I have. Mine is a 2022.

On 2024 Limiteds, which is what I'm considering, most of the dealers around my area order the 15.5" display. Within 100 miles of me, I'm considering 14 Limiteds with the 302A package, but only 2 do not have the 15.5" display.

I guess I'm pretty lucky.. Maybe you guys don't drive em hard enough? Im ALWAYS 10.. 15 mph over posted. Frequently loaded pretty heavy. I have 110k? maybe on my 19 max. I did the cam phaser recall, but never had an issue. No trouble with the 10 speed trany. The only thing I don't understand is the drop from 19 mpg to 9 mpg when pulling even a small enclosed trailer. My 17 transit pulls the same trailer with only a minor drop in fuel usage. my 24 f550 has a 10 speed trany. the f550.. well.. it is pretty steady 8.0 mpg.. but it is almost always either full load or pulling a 15,000 loaded equipment trailer. Gas. put plenty of power.

2020 Platinum. 72000 miles and we tow a 7k lb travel trailer. Tranny rebuild at 60k due to drum and full fwd rebuild due to faulty wheel bearing seal- corrosion caused metal shaving contaminants. Dealer says keep an eye and ear out for wheel bearings. Engine has been fine
