Thanks B to all the fellas who replied in seriousness or jokingly to my posts... At the very least y'all gave me the (liquid?) courage to dive in and save thousands...

I can finally say, all systems seem flawless (all tests run with 0 codes) and the motor purrs like a kitty (you can't even hardly feel it run) Needless to say, for 3900, I'm pretty happy to have pretty much stolen this rig!

So here's to my first 'ford' and I'll have an extra for myself! :party52:

Now on to other other regular maint. items, mods, and interior 'stuff'...

One question though... When you accelerate through 2nd and 3rd gears (getting on it pretty good from 0-65) -- Where are your RPM's through those gears? Asking because mine are about 4-4500+ & from 1st to 2nd slams in pretty hard sometimes... Even chirp at me too... (I don't know if my computer has been programmed or not? -- shift points altered?)

CONGRATS!!! but im confused.. This is your first "FORD" but you already have 55+ posts on here.. And I would assume you purchased an Expedition hence being on this forum but you say you are able to "chirp" second gear sometimes??
The RPMs sound about right with what you say but I cant even get my wheels to chirp in the rain!! (granted I have fatter tires though)
Are there mods done to this beast you speak of??

posts because I had to tow the car off the lot to my driveway & I myself had never put a socket to any previous cars (so I was a bit nervous, doing anything) -- my neighbor (a prior ford tech for 8 years) said he would help me, but after getting the car on my driveway, must have lost interest? So I had to do it myself come hell or high water.

The chirp isn't at the wheels... Just a lot of torque getting transfered somewhere making something chirp... (trans?, belt?) Not that worried about it though, my driving style is nothing like how I test drove it (trying to throw misfire codes etc.)

No mods except 'gotts' but figure I still need a high flow air filter (rather than stock) to garnish any beni's?

I prefer to do that on rentals... lol
Well it seemed like everything worked out and you probably learned a shit ton in the process.
Nice Work

at least you got her up and running. i remember when mine was acting up and we saved a ton of money from this site being the fact that i had a vacuum leak. good thing you got her purring. and i wouldnt make her chirp too long. seems like a belt. check it for damage. but other than that idk why it chirps. does it clunk in to gear sometimes?

Yeah, it does sound like the belt slipping slightly... Maybe it's the motors way of saying "thanks" for bringing it back from the rust pile (after sitting 'dead as a doornail' for 12+ months!)

New fuel pump (cleaned out tank), filters, all new plugs, coils, clean throttle body / MAF / IAC etc., 2 rounds of BG109, new fluids and a couple rounds of injection cleaner and seafoam... Hey! I'd wanna gityup too :)

As far as shifting (if I'm on it pretty good 1/2 to 3/4+ throttle) it seems to hold the gear a bit too long then slam in pretty hard... On the flip side, if I'm 1/4 to 1/2 throttle it will sort of 'lumber' into gear & feel like the RPMs are too low (while still accelerating through it to increase RPM...) However, I don't think it's much of a problem but something I may take a look at in the future if I buy an EDGE CTS?

Ford makes a pretty damn good motor with these 4.6 / 5.4's don't they? (pretty easy to service too)

** and my fuel mileage shot through the roof too!... Pretty happy about that finally... -- When I first got it running a few weeks ago I swear I could drive around the block and watch the gas gauge drop before my eyes...

well they arnt easy to work on, but they are work horses. they will keep on fighting even after some abuse. o how did you like the sea foam treatment? i wanna do mine soon. hope it clears up some driving issues i have. but what is your mileage you would say? and the computer has to learn the transfercase again and how it needs to shift so i would try and stay away from WOT for a little bit. then test it out.

Not sure about the seafoam (or straight injection cleaner for that matter)... I can only trust it does something close to what it claims... I had to treat this motor as if it had never had anything done to it in 10 years... (so I really have no baseline to draw from) But it couldn't hurt... I would say it helped. And I'm going to run a couple more bottles through shortly...

Haven't run any official milage tests but I know this morning I drove about 25 miles in stop & go, and the needle didn't even move it seems... Nice...

All I know is that in my various episodes of misfire bliss over the last few weeks, I swear I've seen anywhere from 4-8 MPG at various times... And trust me... I'd drive that thing anywhere down the road and at least 2 needle widths would get trimmed off the gas gauge... :flame:

Same exact way my throttle & RPMs work.

I was getting really paranoid that the transmission was going but since I'm not the only one experiencing it, I feel a little bit better...

Not knowing your past posts, you can reset the transmission box by doing a shotgun reset. So the tranny and relearn your shifting pattern. Details are in the owners manual

I do this to my other car makes. And im surprised Ford was the only one to mention this in the owners manual

It feels great to do the job yourself. Just think of how much you saved and learned from doing it yourself, and you got a good deal on it. As for the motors, the 4.6 is pretty dang tough. The 4.6 also has forged internals, so if you ever want to run boost, your not going to break her. I've got 170k on mine and she is still running strong, although I'm thinking a rebuild in another year or so. . . only to add some more power. . . wanting to try 400 hp on all motor. And mine also squeaks when I shift at 4500, I am pretty sure its the belt.
