When converting a 2017 Limited to HIDs, do I need the CANBUS type ballast or no?

Does anyone have a straight answer or experience going with or without CANBUS ballasts?

I converted our 2017 XLT to HID using the DDM tuning canbus system and it has been working flawless for almost the year they have been installed.

Too many different threads cree?? LOL...yeah, I know. I stopped bothering to tell folks about the manual screw ups(like the bulbs being wrong) and let 'em learn like I did because the information was everywhere and nowhere.....need "stickies" for some things like most forums have. A repository of factual, helpful info.

If you ask Gixxer, he will recite to you the model# of the bulb kit I installed....I don't remember it honestly. Once you have that info, simply look and see. I spent around 150 on this kit after screwing around with leds for a while.

Don't know what's required but I had these professionally installed in my 2017 XLT with reflector housings:

"GTR Lighting H11B HID Bulbs, 5000K
35w CANBUS HID Ballasts"

in my 2011 XLT reflector low beams.

and

"Supernova V.3 LED Headlights, 9005/9145 Bulbs" (also 5000K)

in the high beams.

After adjusting the headlight aim from the Point-at-the-Ground (r) Ford factory settings this setup works to my great satisfaction.

"Quotes" above are from my invoice.

Thanks. I ordered the canbus version. We’ll see how this goes.

Diode Dynamics with Hylux ballasts is the way to go. Will work with canbus or without and no errors or flickering

Yup Gix, that's what I bought....thanks for chiming in.

The lights are backwards in the manual.....H11/HB3............

The H11's are the high beams.................in my '17 bought new anyway.

Here is a pic of the stock low beam HB3 I removed. The dealer didn't even know that Ford had screwed up the manual.

Makes me curious of those who bought a H11 kit...what did you really get because they sure aren't going in a HB3 socket!

Weird, my 2017 has H11 in the low beam... and I put the H11 HID kit in there. Are you sure that you are pulling the low beam bulb?

I've seen the "bulbs are backwards in the owner's manual" comment before, probably here.

As noted I have H11B HID bulbs in my 2017 Low Beams. At least according to the invoice. :) But the former bulbs I have here in a box are indeed H11 High and 9005 Low based on I know I fitted some H11 high beam bulbs over a year ago and they have a blue tip.

I've not pulled the headlights to check but I can see the bulbs thru the lens and there's HIDs in the low and LED in the high. Main reason I had the lights upgraded professionally was to have some recourse if something went wrong.

Everything is working fine.
