Introduction and Help Needed!!

Hello Guys my Name is Andres, I just purchased a 2004 Ford Expedition, Eddie Bauer Edition, with 79k, I am having a little issue everytime I accelerate and I'm going 30 to 40 miles my truck starts making this weird noise...if i turn from D to N , the noise seems to stop... and when the truck is running, i accelerate on N the noise stops...and then i turn it to Drive the noise comes back again..i believe there is something going on with my transmission...if any of you can give me some input on what could be happening I would greatly appreciate it!! i'm very excited to have a "new"car but definitely concerned about what's going on... i'm thinking about taking it to the ford dealer where i purchased it, to see what could be happening, but before I do that, I would like some feedback from you guys!!

Without actually hearing the noise, it will be difficult for a diagnosis. If you just bought it at a Ford dealer, I would take it back ASAP. They usually have some kind of warranty for 30 days or 1000 miles that will cover any issue that comes up.

Just like Stoned06 stated without being able to hear the noise you are talking about it is really hard to give you any ideas. Also besides hearing the noise we would need to know if it is a 2wd or a 4x4.

Does the sound go away after 40mph?

Has it always done this since you got it or is this something that just started?

Can you feel any kind of vibration when you hear the noise?

I would definatly take it back to the dealer that you just bought it from and have them take a look at it, or take it to a well trusted mechanic or mechanically inclined family member to get there opinion.

hard to tell

it could be your trans but i would look at simpler things first. Check the rear diff and u joints as well. Pay a couple of bucks and have a trusted mechanic check it out. I didn't see anything about if the vehicle is 4wd or 2wd.

Hi thanks for the answers...my expedition is 2wd, the noise begins at 30mph and up.

if you go faster the noise appears to disappear.

It could be your transmission, or it could be the bearings in the rear axle.

Any vibrations?

How long have you had the Expedition?

How long has it been making the sound?

With the window down can you hear it more like it is right under you or towards the back of the truck?

Take it back to the dealer in which you bought it hand have them inspect it to make sure there are no issues. There are a few different things that it could be and none of them are easy to determin without actaully being able to see and hear the vehicle.

Does it sound like a whine? Since it only happens while accelerating, it sounds like it could be the rear differential. If the gears inside aren't adjusted properly, you get the "rear-end" whine that can be common. Typically it isn't too loud, but if your's is, you may need new gears.

the noise is not too loud. that rear end whine is typicall on all expeditions?

i mean all of you gus have to repair this?? that sucks i love the truck but this is not too good

ok, so truck is on the dealer since past monday, they are fixing it and the sales man told me today that right now the fix cost are going up to 1000 dollars, they are gonna pay everything, the problem> rear end gears and differential.

Good to hear they are stepping up to fix it. Isn't common across all Expeditions, but isn't unheard of either. I had an Explorer that had it pretty bad. Luckily it was a lease and I just let it go until I turned it in. It typically doesn't cause any damage, it's just annoying. However if the backlash it too much, the gears can be damaged.
