Is all the "fuel saving" tech really worth it in the long run?

I think cannibalism is illegal because someone didn't like that.

Stop using my old thoughts. How condescending of you. I now think cannibalism is terrible but also great and should be outlawed unless flat earth something nanny state soros.

This thread is quickly becoming a 1st rate lesson of "how to make all around you, hate you"!!

It's like watching children..... arguing with Toby.......

Back on topic. The answer is yes. Also all new tech is not just for fuel savings.

I rented an Infiniti Q50 3.0T (twin turbo v-6)awd this weekend. This tiny sports car was only averaging 23mpg to my 2017 Expeditions 19. Ford for all it's faults has done a remarkable job with that.

Agreed. Amazing times. The new Volvo XC90, a 4500lb 3 row luxury SUV, is getting 30mpg highway and does 0-60 in 5.3 seconds. There are all sorts of amazing examples like this these days.

I gain no pleasure from pointing out your untethered views and hypocrisy. It’s simply easier to use your own arguments against you than to use my own.

You’re welcome to that view.

I don’t take such a deep state conspiratorial angle on such things. I think people just got sick of the air burning their eyes and driving up chronic pulmonary disease...not to mention seeing their rivers catch fire.

Or maybe I don’t think that. Argue against that statement and I’ll call you smug for going back and using my old thoughts.

Don’t hold me to anything I say.
It's just a discussion. You don't have to always try to catch somebody in a moment of hypocrisy to say haha I got you you were wrong.

About the pollution, I'm sure people who had lots of pollution were tired of their eyes burning and such but my point was so much of the country had no problems with pollution or air quality but they also got affected bylaws that filter down from California having problems and the EPA.
I think those people had the out of sight out of mind attitude. I'm not saying it was the best attitude to have and it certainly wasn't very productive but they had no pressing issue for pollution and maybe not for the next 50-100 years but they still became regulated. Many of them did not like this. There wasn't a problem for them.

You obviously get a kick out of " using my own arguments against me" and that's part of the problem. For you it's an argument that you're trying to win.
I'm not arguing with you except in a very broad definition of the word, and especially not trying to change your viewpoints or opinions. I am simply stating my or other people's opinions and or preferences that I have or that I have witnessed.
I'm not expressly promoting or condemning a stance of conservationism or being a polluting bastard.
I'm not really promoting either one.
I'm sure there have been a few statements that sound like I am but not repeatedly, wholeheartedly or intentionally.
If I say I'm against Cafe standards or government regulation in this matter that doesn't necessarily mean that I want cars to get 12 miles to the gallon and pollute the air but I do take a deep State conspiratorial view or at least something similar to that and I am mostly anti-government and anti-establishment.
We all have something that makes us tick. Mine is not liking and griping about things.

Dumping poison into the air in CA impacts other states. The atmosphere and waterways don’t respect state sovereignty and boundaries.

You may recall the issue the US had with acid rain. Poison pumped into the atmosphere and waterways of CA ends up in Ohio.

You’re OK with California poisoning lakes rivers and forests in Ohio?

So I read up a bit on this Cuyahoga River fire thing and yes it's been on fire like 13 times. It also is pretty much a non-event for the people the big fire the referring to was out in like 30 minutes and nobody really cared and they went about their business.
Nobody really even got a good picture of the one in 69 because it was such a non-event for them.
They said that no one paid a bit of attention to it until Time Magazine publish an article about it then all the sudden it was like the worst thing to ever happen in the country in the world and something had to be done. So it makes me feel a little better but really mad at Time Magazine.
Ohio just going along and minding its own business and things being just fine until somebody give something attention and there's some national outcry.
But I'm in one of those moods so screw all govt and do gooders.

You’re mad that TIME told the country that Ohio’s rivers were so polluted that they caught on fire...

or mad that Ohioans didn’t care that they poisoned their rivers much that they could catch on fire?

Therein lies the question: no one's arguing that the better MPG and more power are not awesome, but do they actually save you money in the long run when you factor in the added complexity and maintenance costs?

A $2000 timing job after 100,000 miles kind of eats into the "fuel savings", doesn't it?... not to mention all the other stuff that can go wrong, such as the PCM, electronic throttle body, solenoids, a thousand different sensors, etc.

Personally, I feel like we live in an era where cars are considered disposable. Fewer and fewer people are doing their own work on them and it actually doesn't make sense for car manufacturers to make cars and trucks that will last. The worst vehicle for a dealership is a vehicle that requires no repairs once the warranty is up!

I think only one caught on fire. Let's check so we can get those facts right.

At least a little mad that Ohio or at least the residents in the area seemed ok with it but Time made it a much larger deal than it was to the actual people right there at the occurrence .

Don't really care too much at this point because it rained today so everyone can piss off. Gloom, doom, and rain.

Pro tip: if your rivers that flow into 3 different states catch fire...That’s not the media’s fault.

But I’ll give you this, rainy days suck!
