Is something missing

I noticed a socket with nothing plugged into it on the back of my HVAC control. Is something supposed to be plugged in here?

Not necessarily. It could be used for a feature that's not installed on your vehicle or it could be diagnostic port or something similar.

I doubt many of us have looked back there.

Any missing "features?"

The pins don't appear to be populated, so they likely just used the same case for the module as another that has different features requiring that extra connection.
