I was told told by an unbiased mechanic that i should only use a motorcraft oil filter and 5-50 oil in my 2005 expidition. Can anyone confirm this or is there something different or better i can use.....appreciate any help

mines a 99 but I only use motorcraft filters but i use 5w 30 walmart brand oil and have never had a problem... biggest thing I know is people stay away from Fram filters because they have been known to have their filter material break down and the filter stuff clogs the oil pump

I have a 2005 and use 5-30 Mobil 1 full synthetic. I have used several brand filters w/o issue, just make sure they have the silicone anti-back flow valve to stop the start-up knock. Motorcraft is the cheapest though at Walmart.

I'm curious as to the 5-50, the oil cap and manual recommend 5-20 synthetic blend, far from 5-50 motor oil.

I use the motorcraft filter and 5-20 motor oil available at walmart. I always use the manufactures filter. Best thing you can do is change the oil at least as often as manufacturer states. Use the proper weight oil.
