what i would do is get it and go threw it. $300 isnt bad for a used tranny. but i would replace at least the torque converter. ask them how many miles were on it when it was pulled. if they dont know then offer them less.

The usual story is: "Rebuilt a trans for a 'project' that I'm not going to do any more, so I have this trans sitting around".

But in this case, it looks like it was pulled from a truck and never touched. I'd be wary of his 'guarantee', unless he's willing to pull it back out of your truck and rebuild it if it doesn't work.

The good thing is that if you carry-in a trans to a decent transmission shop, it can cost you under $500 for a rebuild.

I'd give him no more than $250 cash and take it straight to a tyranny shop and have it rebuilt with s shift kit. Put that in and have your old one redone and then sell it.

I learned my lesson buying a used tranny for my grand prix, bough tit from a lkq parts yard, had like 35,000 miles, I installed it and it clunked horribly into each gear, and stuttered when shifting. They warranted it and got me another, but that was another 3-4 days of dicking around to install it, plus new torque converter seals, fluid and filter
