Well here's a good one for you guys/gals. I bought a set of near new 20 inch tires for the green giant a couple months back, got a killer deal. Only 100 miles on Kumho Excsta street tires. Mounted and balanced them myself. Well about two weeks back saw a screw in left front, could of plugged myself, but I hate plugs, and my buddy that always let me used his shop, went rouge on me. So I brought it to a shop here in Daly City, that I bought tires for both the Expy, and my 89 Lincoln. Well long story short, they pulled screw, charged me $10.00 said no leak. Well guess what, since then SUVs been pulling to right. Checked pressures 1 week back, left 31 right 18. Thought the bonehead didn't see don't change pressure, on work order. We've been talking head gaskets lately. Well today I almost blew my head gasket, I looked at r/f tire here at the lake, saw a plug in the r/f tire. How do you attempt a repair on a tire that was brand new! On top of that, the screw was in the other tire. Tomorrow is going to be fun fighting with them. It never ends!

You're getting old Mr. Moose, we are in Singapore now and guess what, they only use cars here up to 10 years then they retire it. Makes sense, not being sentimental on material things. Good luck on your tire!

10 years old Doc is a new car to me. Remember my Expy only had 64k on it when I purchased it 3 years back. Check this out. Saturday went back to the sales/ tire place that did the repair, and guess what, the man walks out from the sales department up to the empty service counters, and explains to me they went out of business 2 weeks ago! Well at least I have no one to argue with, just a plug in a tire that didn't need one. This stuff can not be made up, and only happens to me. And you wonder why I hate having anyone but me do things on my Suv!

Yes that's what they say never let anyone touch your car except you. Unless you can't do it yourself. Maybe the 10 year expiry date on cars here in SG benefits only the urban professionals who can afford it. I don't see expys here. Well, best of luck on your truck and have a nice day!

My truck is ten years old and runs/looks brand new in and out...... that’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. Singapore huh, Maybe us Americans just build a better truck .

Mine is a 2000 EB with 175,***. Today I dropped it off at the dealer to change all the fluids, tranny flush, engine oil, coolant, brake, p/s, and top off the freon. Truck is showroom condition, not a spec of rust, seats are new no rips tears etc. I plan on driving it till it just stops which doesnt appear to be anytime soon.

Repairs:
alternator at 100k
Ball joints at 100k
Coil over conversion at 125k
Intake mani at 150k
rear control arms replaced due to rusting 165k

Typical maintenance if you ask me. Check out the mercedes and bimmer blogs for much newer models...you'll laugh your arse off.

Why designate 10 years as end of life for vehicles that can last longer?

Overseas the rules are different. In Japan you can't run an engine past 50k! That's why you see motors for sale. Can you imagine how rich you've got to be to afford a new motor every 50 k!

That’s just not efficient, you have to expend the means to produce a new engine every 50k when it can go more than quadruple that. Waste of resources if you ask me.

True but look it up, unless the rules in Japan have changed. The smog rules require it. Only the wealthy survive in Japan.

Don't feel too bad moose it a PIA but easily resolved. I read about a guy who had an operation to repair a bad left knee and the surgeon replaced the right one by mistake. Now that's a problem. You know what they say. Shit happens. Put the plug in the other tire and have a beer.

Didn't need a plug, he pulled the nail, and the l/f was good to go. Who knows maybe that tire had a plug in it when I bought them. They had less than 100 miles on them, and maybe I didn't inspect that one. I mean when a set of 4 tires still have the little nubby things on them, and smell that wonderful rubber new smell, why would I look for a patch/plug? Oh well life goes on!

Moose you're not alone. I bring my wife's Subaru in for a recall (the dreaded Takata air bag) and when I get it back, my wife tells me that the Low Tire Pressure light is on. I had just changed the oil and checked the tires about a month previous. I check it out and all four tires have 25 lbs each in them. Exactly. So I think WTF? and put them back to 32 where they belong. And they've stayed there. So why would you adjust the tire pressure to 25 lbs when replacing an air bag? Like you, this is why I try to do things myself...

Seems like these service facility's think their doing some sort of favor by messing with your tires. Just because a door sticker says 25 psi doesn't mean that's where an aftermarket wheel/ tire combo should be. I've not heard of factory pressure that low since the old bias ply tires of years back. I tell the service advisor what my pressure should be, but each time I get it back some Yahoo decides not to read the work order, and does what he wants. Very few outsiders I trust, and always somethings broke, loose, or just screwed up.
