I recently picked up a new to me 2010 Expedition Limited 4WD. I always join the a forum for any vehicle I own. I don't post much, since most everything has already been discussed. The search option is my friend. I have owned Fords my whole 19 years of driving.

Problem appears to be an IWE Solenoid from what I can gather from searching here and some F150 forums. I get an intemittent grinding almost like a heat shield rattle then a thump feels like in the drivetrain. It seems to start on the left front then the right front and then it goes away. Just wanted to throw it out here and see if I am tracking.

I have the infamous bubbling paint on the liftgate, had the same problem with my 05 Mustang on the hood.

I am also getting a front tire squeel in 2WD on tight turns in parking lots, almost like 4WD is engaged but no loping. I will more than likely replace the solenoid and see if that fixes the problem.

Its a fast fix... If replacing does not work.. time to perform a vacuum check on your actuator hoses...

Welcome to the forum, krahe3. Have you been to the dealer for these concerns? I'd like to loop in your regional customer service manager to assist. Please send me a PM with your full name, best daytime phone number, VIN, mileage, and servicing dealership; I'll get the ball rolling.

Agreed it is right at the top of the engine bay (at least on my dad's 2nd gen). No offense to the customer service, but it is not worth a trip to the dealership to replace. Doing it yourself will save a lot of money.

Called the dealer to order the soleniod today and they tried to sell me a hub actuator for 180 bucks, said there is no solenoid on the 2010 expedition. I popped the hood and mounted to the brake booster is the solenoid correct? anyone have a part number?

I dont believe that is the correct solenoid, I think its on the passenger side firewall.

Check this link because a solenoid is listed for a 2010. (MSRP is $20)
