Hey y'all,

I just changed all 8 COP's in my 97' Expy 5.4 liter Triton V8 and it runs so much better now. I want to thank those who have posted about the COP's in this forum. It has helped me so much. I will start taking pictures of my truck and post them in here soon. For now, here is a pic of my engine compartment. It needs detailing bad. Gonna have to get at it!!

Nope not yet! Does it help with gas mileage? Still working on getting it the way I want it.

Most of us that have done it agree that it helps with power and mileage.
Beins yours is a '97, you may run into the same issue I did with my '98. The snorkel on the filter housing is smaller. So I had to "modify" the mod to make it kosher.

Yeah I noticed that it is smaller. So I've seen mod's that have a 3" pvc pipe added to it. Is that so it takes in more air? I don't know a lot about this, but I'm willing to learn all I can.

Just detailed the engine compartment. Still have more to do, but I think this is good for now.

That is it. The idea is to allow the engine to breathe better under heavy load. It's not going to show you a noticeable MPG boost, but many claim they can feel a subtle difference, including myself.

What is this mod?

There are lots of threads and discussions about it here and on other Ford truck forums, a quick search should yield lots of reading.

Essentially, you replace the small rubber connector between the air filter box and the inner fender wall with a larger piece of pipe. The theory is that the larger pipe reduces restriction and allows the engine to breath more freely.

Personally, I don't buy the claim of performance benefits that many claim unless it is coupled with other mods like an aftermarket air cleaner, but on it's own it will increase intake noise slightly and many people like this too. That said, even if it does not help performance, it certainly should not hurt.
