K&N Filter and Increased Engine Noise

Just the airbox, not the whole system.

any time you add more flow, you are gonna pick up more noise...

The paper filter (stock) tends to muffle the sound of the intake air flow. It is common for a high flow filter to allow noises out of the air box.

I have the rubber grommet in my firewall removed to run 0 gauge speaker wire through it, and with that removed you can definitely hear a difference with a K&n filter. I also took out the silencer and removed the piece that narrows down at the end of the intake tube and replaced it with a wider diameter piping and rubber coupling.

i just installed a k&n replacement filter on my 05 expo and i didnt notice any louder noise. i also have a flowmaster supper 44. however i deff.noticed throttle responce big time.

Anytime you open up the airbox or put an intake on you'll probably notice increased engine noise, I prefer it so I'm happy with the results as I've put an intake on every vehicle I've ever owned.

I don't have an expedition yet, however I've installed a K&N drop in filter in about every car and truck I've owned. I've never heard a difference in sound from the intake. I pay close attention too, once I did hear it get loud and it turned out to be the air box came unlocked. The cover had popped open.

The loudest mine Ever is is 2500-3500 and when i shut it off but sooo worth the extra noise for the extra horsepower and responsiveness (along with exhaust upgrades)
