This took a lot longer to obtain then I thought (CCL: conceal carry licence)

Now I gotta mock up a holster that'll position the weapon between my driver seat and the center console, I'm not planning on ever carrying it on me physically, I just have to go through some super ghetto neighborhoods and sometimes work there too....

If anyone here has a holster for the car interior, please share I want go get an idea of how to go about it

Where is it going to be when it's in the car and not on your person? If you don't plan on carrying it then you'll want some type of safe to put it in so it won't get stolen. Or just carry it since you have the license.

I use Blackhawk Serpa for my open carry holsters, Blackhawk makes quick disconnect mounts for these that you can mount anywhere and the holster attaches to it. I have one under a coffee table for instance and there is one in my car as well. I rarely use the one in the car because I prefer to reholster my weapon on me as little as possible.

Ever see the console vault? Pretty cool but expensive. And it turns the entire console into a vault. Which may not be desirable.

This plus some large fender washers mounted to the side of your console turns only a portion of your console into a vault.

Yea I'm not getting a vault, I don't need it. I came up with a design that is spring loaded I just gotta draw it out and make my cuts. Gonna make it out of aluminum mounted to the side of the center arm rest

Yes & no, no as in there's 26 other states that honor an IL CCL not 34. Utah is one of those 26

I got a simple leather IWB holster (old Uncle Mike's open bottom 1911) and slid the clip in between the trim panels on the dash next to the steering column. Its open, simple, accepts all of my handguns (1911,M&P full size, PX4, Glock 19, H&K, Sigs, Bodyguard .380 and others) with no issue. Most have weapon lights and they all fit easily. Simply slide the holster back up and out to remove it (a small screwdriver is required since the clip has the belt retainer on the inside of it). No holes or velcro glue.

Did the same thing on the wife's Exploder, but it is mounted on the trim pieces alongside the transmission tunnel/center console next to the right knee. To be honest, I think I like that location a little better, but would require cutting/drilling on the Expedition.

Not intense at all. Its much more convenient and easier to draw than actually on your person, especially with a seatbelt on. Also much more comfortable.

You don't want to know my loadout for more serious situations or the expectation of traveling into/through problem areas. Hurricanes and severe weather result in a significant increase in looting and violent crime.

Only thing I'd change would be using a retention holter in that setup. A wreck or hard bump could turn it into a projectile...

USM thanks for the pics, I'm trying to go the same route as your wife's explorer except I want it mounted closer to the belt buckle clip, ressesed below the seat cushion so it's not visible even with me not sitting there, plus I can engage it by pretended to be attempting to unbuckle myself

I tried that. The seat rubs the holster and applies pressure on it, which fumbles when drawing. Practice will be needed regardless as it is an atypical and awkward draw. You are fighting the console when you attempt to draw, its not a "clean wrap" as one is accustomed to when drawing from a traditional location holster. Having it down lower will make for a ln even more difficult draw. Another plus to using the IWB holster is that if you forget your typical or need it for a different situation; you always have a back-up readily available.

You would be surprised as to how many people never notice the pistol/holster in either vehicle. I have had several LEO actually ask to get into my truck and "test" it out.

It is quite sturdy and holds better than you would imagine; the top looks loose but the lower portion is quite snug. That holster does have a retention strap, I choose to not utilize it.

I have seen a few others who have used a SERPA holster (i did while deployed, used a SERPA mounted in the MRAP for added mobility inside) but not a huge fan of it as the ergonomics required to draw it effectively are difficult. If the SERPA was mounted to the dash in the same manner as mine, it has to be mounted in an "underhand draw". There is no feasible way to mount a SERPA style to the console without requiring 2 hands or being a contortionist.

To each his own; I won't dictate how someone else chooses to mount theirs. Well, not as long as its safe for all involved. Don't get me started on shoulder holsters.

Fair enough. I usually leave mine on my hip so that I can draw and unbuckle at the same time, and the retention on it is strong enough that my buddy was able to pick me up by the pistol.

And I'm curious your opinion on shoulder holsters... I don't like sweeping a 180 arc on the draw, especially when that includes my off-hand bicep, but I generally like them.

Yea I think I need a more appropriate pistol to store in the car, the one I got is a little too big too over powered to make sense, also something that I can actually use at the range to practice, any recommendations? Thinking a glock or 1911... somewhere in that ball park, has to be semi auto no revolvers $500~$800. Guns are not my field of expertise but every recommendation I'll research thoroughly.

Currently I have, or had for a while a desert eagle 50, yes I know not the best first gun to own but it was a gift from my former employer. Hallow tips I believe 320 grit bullets in it can't remember on top of my head but the two gun ranges by me won't allow .50 cal weapons and I don't want to change the bolt size to .357 it's still too big to be concealed and appropriate for quick draw

I'm very happy with my walthers. I've got a P99 AS (predecessor to the PPQ and PPX platforms) for my daily CCW, and my wife's got a PK380 for hers, but I've carried it pretty often if I want something a little more easily concealed than the P99... Mostly for places that I know don't like CCW, but don't screen at the door.
