To continue key fob in washer story.
Took battery cover off and battery out. Dried overnight and works fine now.
Called Ford and they want 170 for fob and 135 to program.
235 total.
Said they would program aftermarket for 135 but would not guarantee. Downside of an Amazon fob for 30 dollars?

Do you have the push button start system? Or the physical key-in-fob system ? ( Or just post a picture...) Buy one off ebay or amazon. You can easily program the FOB to your Expy yourself, it's easy. There are several videos on youtube showing how to program the FOBs. Or you can certainly use ForScan to program them to your Expy.

I have the key in fob but only one. Can it be self programmed with only having on key or must you have two?

If you have a laptop you can use ForScan to program your new keys to your Ford, regardless of how many other keys you have in your possession. Buy the keys on Amazon and take them with your good key to any Home Depot or Lowes and have them cut to match your working key ( usually free or minimal charge...). Then use ForScan to program them to your Expy once they're cut. They would have to be cut for the dealer to program them anyway, so that is always the first step. After the key is cut try it out in the Expy's door lock to make sure it's cut right.

I would suggest these keys, because they have slightly smaller FOB actuation buttons and are less prone to accidently triggering the panic button or popping the rear glass when turning the key to start the vehicle or any other time. Ford Key FOB on Amazon

Also many locksmiths have the capability to cut and program your new key to your Expy, you'd just have to call around. But they're generally cheaper than the dealer and they guarantee their work. ( If you don't feel comfortable working with ForScan and your laptop on your vehicle...)

FYI: My Brother is the Manager for a Ford Dealer's parts department. I was talking to him about keys on Amazon. He said that they will not cut keys bought off of eBay/Amazon because they can ruin his $7k key cutting machine. He said that there are stories around the parts dept community where someone tries to cut a key that was brought in and it absolutely destroys the cutting bits.

So if you dealership refuses to cut your $35 key and wants to sell you a $200 one, there is a reason for that other than just $$$.

They want 165 for key and 135 to program.
They will do internet key for 5 dollar cutting and 135 to program with no guarantees. Two different dealerships.

I got so fed up with the nonsense of kids and wife losing Ford and Jeep keys that I bought a $100 machine to cut them. Nobody locally would do it anymore and some of the machines didn't have clearance for the large key bows.

Programming is with any quality Ford "enhanced" programmer. Wish my Jeeps were as easy. No way was I going to pay hundreds of dollars time and time again for something I could by for $9.

Did you call any locksmiths in your area and see if they can do the job ? If you're not comfortable with programs I guess that's the best route for you.

You can also go to a "big box hardware store" and get a cloned key for about $80. They program it to mimic the codes of your one key. The problem with cloned keys is that they won't start the car if their internal battery goes bad.

What once was working, now will not. The fob worked fine for several days, it won’t now. None of the functions.
How does that change things when I have a non functioning fob?
Will aftermarket fobs still work for programming or does it force me to Ford dealer?

The metal "key" portion will still work, but you'll have to see if the transponder chip still works and is recognized by the Expy's PCM.

So since it doesn’t work. Will that drive up the price of making another?
Several people have asked if I had a functioning fob before they quoted a price.
