Leak at Turbo’s - first time Ecoboost owner

New to us car - 2017 Expy EL Limited. 149k miles. Owned if for about 400 of those.

I just saw spots in my driveway. Almost ignored them. Popped the hood and the coolant is real low.

Went under the car and saw two spots leaking. I assume these connections are the turbo, but the leaks seem to be very focused near the lines.

Would love some insight as to whether this is or isn’t a “leaky turbo”, or what else it could be. My assumption is that the leak is originating just forward of that fitting that the blue arrow is pointing to.

In any case, would love feedback from those with more wisdom about how bad this looks, what I have in front of me, etc.

I have a 2015 with 150K miles and just found a leak in the same spot. Did you determine the source yet and the easiest DIY fix?

Very common turbo coolant leak. Several videos up on YouTube. Hours of fun if DIY. My 2016 with 116K miles has a slow intermittent leak on the drivers side turbo. I add a little coolant every month or two. Just like a toothache-when it gets real bad then I’ll fix it.

OP - look at your 1982 image on the side opposite your blue arrow. I believe the socket tube thing with the clip is your coolant line and the frequent source of leaks. I've watched several YouTube videos on replacing the socket thing however they never show the other end of the coolant line.

Has anyone fixed the leak? My 2015 Exp leaks coolant from the driver's-side turbo. With the price of turbos, I was wondering if I could just replace the turb coolant line gaskets, in hopes the turbocharger is still in good shape. I always that that if a turbo goes bad, you have bigger issues and should fix those before breaking another turbo...

Any updates on this? Curious what the outcome is to fix this. I have a 2017 Expy with no issue, but my sister with a 2015 Expy was just quoted $4k for turbo replacements. Which I think is insane.

I did the passenger side on my 2017. Replaced both lines and all the fittings (4ea) and while i was in there, changed o-rings on the vacuum pump and replaced the left header (broken bolts) with the upgraded header. NGL, it sucked and took a whole weekend. I re-installed my turbo (160k) because it was totally fine. My drivers side leak is very minimal but I also got broken header bolts there so when the ordeal of the memory fades i might do that side as well. I can say the driver side looks to be way easier than pass-side (can anyone confirm?) because no starter nor AC lines/compressor. Only caveat on this side is I don't think you can get the rear block line and fitting off so you can only change the forward line and the turbo fittings, which are usually where the leak is anyway.

Bottom line, any decent shade tree mechanic can do it (the younger the better) and you'll save a couple grand.
