I have a 2009 expedition xlt and my liftgate will not open when I press the handle button. The glass will open when I press the button that is under the trim. I took out the interior panel and wires seem intact. I have been opening my liftgate manually and I'm getting tired of it. Can someone tell me what it could be?

From your post I get the impression that all you have done is to check the wires to make sure they are intact

You mention nothing about checking the fuses for voltage or anything else that you may have checked

So in your first post, you say you have been opening the liftgate manually. How are you doing this?

When you pull the handle it will unlatch the door. Then just lift. If you have a power lift gate it's kind of a pain in the butt

I removed the interior panel and there is a lever that you can push and it will unlatch the liftgate. I have to open the rear glass and reach inside push the lever and unlatch the actual liftgate. It truly is a pain in the ass because I am short lol

Welcome to the forum Ivana. You say that you have been opening it manually. In the 05 the whole handle pulled out to unlatch the lock mechanism. In the later ones the button just pops the lock and once you hear that you just pull up on the handle. Does it not unlock when you push the button?

So what your saying is you don't have a power liftgate, its manual and the handle that releases the liftgate is broken so you need to reach inside and manually open. Can you not just get a new handle or pressure switch for the handle to remedy? Try looking on fordparts.com go to your vehicle find subsection on the exterior for latches and look at schematics to find parts that could fix the issue or at least help you see what could be broken.

Yes my problem is when I press the button in the handle, it does not unlatch.
