Hi- I am brand new to offroading, and I was wondering how capable my stock '97 Expy would be? Obviously no intense stuff, but I am just curious for your take.
Thanks
Having lived in NJ in the past your expy should handle just about any condition you have in that state but keep in mind that the tread on the tires and tire pressure should also be a factor in what you attempt to drive in and the biggest factor is the driver just because you have 4X4 doesn't mean you can go anywhere
I have driven on the beach in Avon, NC many times. It's relatively deep unpacked sand and never have gotten stuck. Bone stock down to the goodyear tires but did air them down as recommended. I have also driven in deep snow without issue. It has proven very capable. But I have never taken it "off road" as in mud so cannot comment on that.
I have been stuck a couple of times in mud, but that's just from being too aggressive and taking on stuff the others would not try. If you are planning on just driving a trail or through a field, you should be fine. Just make sure to go slow and watch for big holes.
yes they are heavy and they will find the bottom of the holes much faster than the jeeps and such but they do tend to climb better than the lighter rigs as well
Thanks for your answers- I was looking at Rausch Creek, some of my friends think it looks fun. I would obviously try to learn more before going, but I was just wondering how it would do on the green/blue trails.
It looks like they have an off roading 101 course. That may be a good choice to start. They will also be able to give you a much better idea what you and the truck can handle.
