So I joined to see what kind of network Expedition owners have. I found extensive networks for both F150s, Minis, and 4Runners, so I gave it a shot.
Only issue with this forum is I made a username and it turned it into my full name instead and won't let me change it to anything else. So while I'm not thrilled my name is just out there as my SN, I can't fix it (I contacted one of the mods but not sure how often he signs on). Alas, I digress....onto more fun things.
It's my wife and I and two German Shorthaired Pointers (Gunner and Echo). They're our kids. We have an '04 Expedition XLT with the 4.6L V8 we picked up from her parents in 2012 which they got new and now has 135,000 miles. We had to replace the starter about 10,000 miles ago but otherwise no issues. It's her car and the main dog hauler because it holds two Gunner Kennels, a Large and an Intermediate (they're not cheap but they're the only 5 star crash tested kennels out there). The 4Runner was originally purchased to haul the dogs before the Expedition to haul the dogs. In '13 we bought a 23' travel trailer for me to live in while I was stationed in the Bay Area and my wife stayed in the Seattle area. It was right at the max tow weight of the 4Runner by design, but that wasn't a long term solution.
We've been waiting for the '18 Expeditions to come out because we liked a lot of the features of the new F150 in '15 and were looking forward to their addition in the Expy. Last week we ordered the one in my signature. Plan is to trade in the 4Runner and have the new Expedition as the main road trip/tow vehicle for adventures with room to bring friends and gear. The old one will keep as my DD since I'm only driving around 6 months a year or less due to deployments and what not and when it expires we'll look into a Super Duty or F150 (or maybe a Bronco depending how it comes out).
Anyway, I realize it's a lot of info to throw out there but I've found that I'm usually not the only one making decisions on certain things or based on similar situations, so if I give a relatable (read vehicle decision related) detailed background I may be able to answer questions or at least commiserate with others.
That's all I've got.
