Hi All,

I am new to the forum and was looking for some advice.

I just bought a 2001 Expedition with 85,000 miles. It is in pretty good shape for a car pushing 16 years and counting. The two front doors are in need of replacement due to rot along the bottom edges, but the rest of the body is sound.

All mechanical systems seam to be original.

Our use is going to be long road trips and towing. The car appears to be a little bit "loose" at highway speeds and I am looking to make it a bit more stable at speed. Also, would I net any benefits from lowering the ride at all...

Looking forward to your input and getting to know you all.

Catch u later...

I have always been opposed to lowering/altering the suspension on any vehicle - from the factory design. What do you hope to accomplish by modifying the suspension?

A new set of shocks / strut cartridges will make a big difference in the ride quality. Ensure your tire tread is good and the tires are inflated to the correct pressure.

Welcome to the site.
These trucks are known for front suspension work, plan on ball joints and tie rod ends at the least.

If the doors are rotten then other stuff is rotten too.

Inspect/ replace all fluid lines for transmission, engine coolant, oil, brake lines, etc., etc. as appropriate. These are the kinds of things that can strand an old but good running low mileage vehicle on the side of the road and be really inconvenient for stupid reasons. Don't ask how I know.

At 85,000 miles the truck is likely worth spending the time/ money to "baseline" and get up to road tripping condition.
