98 ford expedition. The bearing in the compressor have been had for about a year now so i decided to have it replaced. Did so Saturday and now i'm back to square one. Drove the truck today and noticed the squeaking noise when i accelerated. Put the truck in park and gave it sum gas and no noise. Shut the truck off and started it back up and no noise. Pulled off and the noise came right back and then it would stop and then squeak squeak a little more. I didn't refill the compressor becus it's almost winter and wanted to wait until next year. Sprayed all pulleys and that didn't help at all. I'm so lost and confused ion know what to do at this point lol any ideas? Oh i replaced the belt about 7 months ago also.

I don't know if this helps or not but when i'm about to come to a complete stop the noise slows down with the engine. The faster the truck the more consistent the sound, the slower the truck the least consistent noise

Read both your posts again.....you give yourself a HUGE clue...

Truck in park.. rev'ing motor.. no noise.

Noise comes and goes with road speed...

Sure doesn't sound like its compressor related... sounds more like wheel bearing/cv joint related...

Are you sure it isn't the accessory belt? It will squeak when it's under load (ie accelerating), but may not when revving standing still in neutral.

I thought about that but didn't follow thru becus once compressor was changed the noise went away for 2 days. Wouldn't see how the 2 would be related. If i'm wrong please explain how

When you changed the compressor did you recharge the air conditioning?? If it is the accessory belt could the compressor clutch be cycling on and off?? Did you turn on the defroster or air conditioner during this, or turn it off when you stopped and put the truck in park??

Belt noises aren't generally caused by anything road speed related. They are caused by engine speed or load. The way you describe the noise happening sounds road speed related.

No i didn't recharge it becus i didn't think it was important. Will do so this week-end but be4 i put the new compressor in when i started the truck up i could here the grinding and squeaky noise but now since the new compressor is in that noise has went away. It's just when driving now that i hear the noise. Before i could go to the car wash and after i leave the noise would disappear for a few days and come back. Was thinking maybe the water was lubing something up down there. Haven't been to the car wash since putting in the new compressor tho.

Ryan, RECHARGE THE A/C NOW!!!!!!!! Why do I say this, simple. The R-134a systems that are in our trucks have an oil that is in the freon that is used to lubricate the bearings in the compressor. Without this oil there, it is like running the engine with the oil drain plug removed. What you are probably hearing is the bearings starting to eat themselves. Not trying to scare you, but that is the short of the story. There is a little bit of oil in the compressor from when they rebuild it, but not enough to keep things safe like you are looking to do.

And there is the reason I asked if you recharged the A/C when you changed the compressor....

The low pressure switch SHOULD keep the clutch from engaging and destroying the compressor, but I would hate to trust the safety of $100+ compressor to a $10 switch rather than getting $15 in R-134a.
