Ok so I noticed a new issue this morning, never heard this one before. I was driving the wife and kids to work/school and we stopped by the gas station for drinks, when I stopped in the parking spot all of the sudden there was a loud droning/humming noise coming from the front of the truck. It stops when I start driving, but seems to come back when I stop or shortly after. When idling. Wondering if the Idle Air Control Valve I replaced not long ago is faulty... any ideas?

Sounds like someone blowing over a plastic bottle if that makes sense, but its very loud.

I would check the pcv valve just to be certain it is not resonating, though my guess would be it has something to do with the IAC air flow.

I would check the throttle body as well. You have not messed with min idle or throttle adjustment have you??

Can you locate the sound under the hood?

When I tried to hop out and find it. It stopped. I hear a light "chuffing" sound as well when the humming is not there. It's a new noise. Pcv seems fine. I'll keep an ear open

I know exactly what you are talking about. I had the same issue, but got my 150,000 mile tune up and replaced my belts and it went away.

Lol pinpointed it. It's coming from the cone on my CAI. Hmmm
Took off the cone and its resonating out of the intake itself, from the throttle body or maybe its the MAFS vibrating, I have no idea. Gonna do some research.

Well, first thing I can think of is to replace my AIC again, I replaced it like 4 months ago, but it is very reasonable to think that the one I got may have been defective. This would also possibly be the reason I have been having idle problems again, so might kill two birds here.

Love going through different forums and seeing all these clowns saying "Its cause you messed with the stock air cleaner system, the noise is there cause you couldn't leave the stock system alone...". Love reading these comments on forums where people are asking for help on a real issue, an issue that actually still can happen even WITH the stock air intake.

I have read that another issue aside from the PCV and IACV, is that the intakes air hoses can be too loose, or have a crack in them. Has anyone, that may have had this noise issue, have any input?

You guys are awesome, thanks for the help!

I have another thread asking about vacuum and idle issues, this is why I am thinking it is my IACV. If the thing went out it could cause this humming noise as well as the idle issue. So unless anyone says otherwise, I will more than likely start there.

Have a great Tuesday guys!

My first thought is the IAC, but an aftermarket intake has been know to make a similar noise. K&N intakes used to make a whistling/humming sound on Lightnings, so I wouldn't rule that out completely. Since it won't cost you anything to put the stock intake on, I would try that first (assuming you still have the stock setup). Then if that doesn't fix it, try another IAC. Good luck.

I don't have the stock set up anymore sadly, one of my friends decided I didn't need it anymore and tossed it. :wtf: But its not like a noise that really seems like it would happen unless there was something wrong. Ya know? Its just really loud and only started happening after my idle issues started up again. It fluctuates with the idle speed too. Seeing as it only starts up at idle, it goes away when I am driving, or when I get the rpm over a certain amount. Its coming from the intake tubing, yes, but its just resonating through there, its not actually being caused by the tubing itself if that makes any sense. I have checked all the fittings and connections, and there doesn't seem to be anything that would cause the issue within the CAI itself. I have heard a lot of things about "noises" coming from a CAI (K&N mostly) but I am hard pressed to believe this specific noise is coming from my CIA. I also have a Spectre intake, not using the K&N if that makes any difference. I appreciate the suggestions! Keep em coming!:Jedi:

Na not the fan clutch. It's coming directly out of the intake, so it's gotta be the IACV. Replacing it tomorrow. I'll post an update.

Yeah unplugged the iacv yesterday morning and it stopped. Idle got all kinds of ****** but, it wasn't that great to begin with. I'm thinking the iacv is on its way out, not completely home yet but enough to cause issues. Ill be going by autozone to trade this one in on the warranty it came with.
