When looking, does HD tow ensure a limited slip specifically for the 2018 model year. My memory says yes but trying to narrow what vehicles to even consider. Absolutely need 4x4 Low range as well.

No, per my semi reliable memory, the limited slip was an option. Have Ford run your VIN to see if your is equipped, or post your door data plate here and we can decode for you.

Disregard my original post above, had a chance to dig for the 2018 order guide and found the attached, all in black and white.

18 and 19 the HD tow got you a locker, 4L, 3.73 gears, heavier rear axle, cooling upgrade etc.
For clarity, and just a pet peeve of mine, it is not a "locker". Nothing locks in the rear of any factory Expedition in the 3rd or 4th Gens to date. The 4th Gens have the ELSD(Electronic Limited Slip Differential), and it is a clutch based, electronically engaged Limited Slip differential. It has a simulated lock mode where it engages the clutches at a higher pressure to simulate a locker sending the same to both rear wheels. It has been proven many times by several people that those clutches can be over driven and overheated and allow slippage. That is under very extreme conditions, that 99.9% of these will never see.

Thanks. I wish you could get the Platinum front end on the Limited. I really want the Platinum grille which weeds out a lot of cars. If I could get a new one it would 100% be a white limited stealth, but that’s off the table LOL.

Is there a certain axle code with the tell tale for Hd tow? A lot of these have bumper covers so I can’t see a 7-pin to identify HD tow. For example besides cold calling around, how would I tell if this unit has HD tow? Half the time salesman will just say yes to get you to come look. Jeez the market is hot right now, pickup trucks with 100,000 miles are selling for what almost what they did for new it seems. The Expeditions seem a lot better as far as value, at least they are 10k+ under what they stickered for which is easier to swallow.

Maybe somebody can correct me, but if it has the Trailer Brake controller and ProBackup, doesn’t it have HD Tow?

They all have 7-pin harnesses, even the non-HD tow 4th gens. In the 2018/19s, if it has the 3.73 axle code, it has the HD tow, unless it’s an FX4 which may or may not have HD tow. If it has the backup assist knob, it has HD tow…
