Mach system / single-DIN?

I just got a '97 with the Mach system - but missing the console-mount CD changer. I'm thinking of having the factory radio/cassette swapped out for a new head unit.

One Web site indicated this model of Expedition is limited to a single-DIN head unit. Though it really looks like a double-DIN unit in the dash.

Does the Mach system have any electronics that prevent installation of a double-DIN head unit? Or any other things that complicate installation of a replacement head unit? (Besides the rear seat audio controls - which I'm thinking could be treated like steering wheel controls.)

You can fit a double DIN it just involves some trimming, its really not that bad. Also the mach system doesn't need anything special to install a deck.

I had the same question, is there a tutorial anywhere which shows what trimming is needed? I really prefer the look of a double-din.
