many of us have 200k and higher mileage on our 2vs. Wondering if switching the original oil pump to a Melling high performance would improve longevity perhaps well into 300’s?

Has anyone installed a high performance oil pump in their 2v?

I believe the oil pump problems we're with the first few years of 3 valve expeditions. What happens on 2 valve motors is the wearing away of plastic from timing chain guides. This debris gets on screen of pump, restricting it's flow. That's a lot of work pulling the pan and timing cover on a sound running motor. Just my 2 cents, but keep oil/filter changed at 5k intervals, a bit higher if full synthetic, and enjoy your ride!

I’m thinking of doing the whole timing job and replacing the guides and tensioners. Redoing the timing should be due at 200k and since it’ll all be open might as well replace the oil pump and why not the water pump as well?

Keep it bullet proof. Why wait and risk a catastrophic failure due to off timing or a broken plastic guide?

If it were me and this is just my opinion I would find out what was making the noise.... rods, bearings, maybe timing chain? Replace all of those. I would chk and see if cylinders weren't too bad, rehone, or rebore if necessary. Add new H or I rods, for sure as that is the weak point on these motors and balance the whole assembly. Also with a little opening up of a few crucial oil passages you get a lot better oil flow also add a new melting or billet oil pump. Do this and you could Supercharge or Turbo it or just have a bulletproof engine that will go a half million mi. No problem

This is purely preventative maintenance. This engine purrs and is quiet. I just think I can get 300k - 350k out of it before repower.

I hear you, on my F-150 same Triton engine family I got 275,000 mi before I got the itch for more power, I dropped a low mileage Lightning motor and trans and proceeded to put 165,000mi on top of the 40,000 it had and it's still going strong. These motors when well taken care of will go forever The F-150's total mileage is around 435,000

Holy shit! 450k. I don’t think the ecoboosts will ever get that. Would be interesting to look inside of that motor on tear down.

Mind you that's 2 motors, 2 transmissions in 1 truck for a total of 435,000 on the Chassis. The only original driveline piece is the axle which has been rebuilt 3 times and now has a Trutrac unit in it now to try and control the Supercharged 480hp/530tq. Still I will make it past a half a million mi in the truck. The Expy is a baby by comparison with 166,000 mi when I bought it
