Missing hose and broken hoses

I found these issues after I bought this 2004 expedition Eddie Bauer. There’s a hose missing from the bottom port of I believe the evr and the top hose is broken. Where do they both go to? Also I found this looping hose just hanging not connected to anything and can’t figure out what it connects to. Any help is seriously appreciated.

Issue I have is when accelerating the ac cuts off from the main vents and switches to defrosting vents. When cruising the ac works fine.

Here's a photo I took during my multi-phase project last year. 2006 Expedition XLT with 4WD. The battery and vacuum reservoir are removed. Source vacuum line enters from the right side. Following the 1/4" source black line from right to left: first black vacuum tee is for HVAC, 2nd tee is for the 4WD IWE. The open vacuum line on the left side of the picture goes to the vacuum reservoir. The IWE vacuum lines and check valve are available as an assembly--check this part no. 4L3Z-3A788-AA. IMO good to replace, especially if only for the check valve.

Thank you for all that, I’m starting to understand it better. Bear with me as I’m new to these vacuum lines. They seem to be everywhere. But on the solenoid where it has 2 hose outputs. The part number you gave is for the bottom port correct? My top port has a partial hose connected, it comes out of the top port and about 8” down it’s broken and the rest is gone. Where does that line go to?

One more question lol the part number you gave says it’s for a f150 and when I put it in Amazon or AutoZone etc it says it’s not compatible with my 04 explorer Eddie Bauer. I’m guessing it works for both since you suggested it but I just want to be sure before I order it. Thank you again for all your help, it really is appreciated.

It's hard to see, just took that picture. The rubber elbow next to the low pressure a/c sensor is on the actuation line coming from the solenoid. You're looking for a vacuum line that's wrapped with black flexible conduit, probably has fallen down behind the valve cover/engine; the connection is a rubber union, sort of. There's also a semi-rigid plastic vacuum line coming out of the conduit that goes to the left front. Go ahead and get the assy I mentioned previously.

You probably won't find the IWE vacuum line assembly listed under Expedition. I looked, and looked... It fits my '06 just fine. Something to keep in mind, when in 2H and engine on, vacuum is being applied to the IWE's via the line coming from the solenoid. That's going to give you a mild vacuum leak...fuel trims are probably elevated, if you want to check with a scanner. And since it's on the same vacuum circuit as HVAC, you may see anomalies.

As SafariGoneWrong noted this is the part number I used on my 2004 as well 4L3Z-3A788-AA. I think the lengths may be slightly different for the Expedition and F-150, but it'll fit just fine.

Here's a diagram of the IWE vacuum lines that should help a bit. You'll notice 2 lines that are loose, they are vents. I mention the vents because I think the 2nd pic you posted is a vent line and is intended to connect to nothing. They have freaked out almost all of us until we figure this out.

@whtbronco thanks and confirmed, it's a vent. The bitter end was hiding under the low pressure a/c switch out of view. I know at least where the driver's side vent is located...

Thank you everyone for your reply’s. I’m checking them all out now. But I did find this vacuum line that goes from the passenger side firewall and is broken at the end. What vacuum line is it and where does it go? It was laying behind the intake but I can’t see where it could attach to. Thank you again for all your help.

I'm bettin' it's the vacuum line for the heater valve. The heater valve has no vacuum line connected.

I would just throw a piece of 1/8" vacuum line on it to connect the broken plastic line to the heater valve.

I figured it out lol. I’m new to these vacuum lines and starting to understand more and more as I go. Sometimes I overthink the simple things

When your air conditioning just work normally without switching vents you will know that you finally got everything correct...LOL..I was constantly close for a while And then got a small coolant leak from the intake manifold....Replaced that and everything was suddenly perfect....It wasnt enough to throw a check engine light. Also to see all of the vacuum lines I had to remove the cover over the throttle area and found a stubborn hard to find bad hose there as well...Happy hunting. Feels good when you geter done though....LOL

Thank you everyone for all your input and help. I ordered the vacuum hoses that was broken on the solenoid but it got seriously delayed in transit. I went to the local auto pick a part yard and just grabbed as many lines and check valves I could and took pics of how all the vacuum lines were installed and found out mine were not correct. $2.14 later I was able to fixed the ac problem and now when I hit the gas hard the ac still flows nice and cold. Then the compressor seized lol I had a feeling it was dying anyway but after replacing that now the truck engine won’t shut off with key removed. On to the next problem I guess… but thank you for all your reply’s they helped me learn a lot and got me where I needed to be.

Just in case others have the same issue with the engine not shutting off when key turned to off. It wasn’t the compressor change it was water intrusion on the fuse panel. Swapped panels and it starts and shuts off like it should.

Here is the vacuum line layout for the 2004. Not sure how close it is to the '03, but hopefully it's close.
