Once upon a time, i crossed out of the mojave north of I15, across the dry lake bed on the west side of 127 north of baker. Being a noob at the time i did not understand what the dark spot in the middle of the “dry” lake meant. Luckily, once i hit the flats, i opened it up so i was moving fast when i hit the mud and started losing speed. Thinking quickly, i gave up trying to get across and turned a shallow arc for the nearest dry edge. I was very lucky that day.
