Shout out on all the MPG discussion. Traveled to Santa Rosa, Fl from Michigan. Averaged 19.8 miles per gallon. Pretty happy with that performance with 6 passengers and loaded up/to MAX. For the space and comfort its worth losing out on 5-8 mpg and taking a smaller cramped vehicle.

I drove from Arkansas to Atlanta, GA and I got 22 mpg with 5 passengers and two coolers. Average speed was around 75 to 80 mph using cruise. Mine is 2019 XTL 4WD with new Michelin LTX tires.

Drove straight through from Maine to Watercolor in February in a loaded up Navigator L and got an indicated 18.8 and I thought that was good!

I don't know how y'all are getting those mpg readings. At best i'm at 17mpg, and usually 15.5-16.0, basically all highway driving (80-85mph), just me driving.

The answer to your low mileage is in your reply. Running 80-85 in these large bricks will only get you so many miles per gallon. Slowing down may not be an option if the traffic is crazy where you live but for sure adjusting your speed to 70-75 will certainly increase your mpg. Keeping tires properly inflated at factory cold pressure, clean air filter, regular oil changes, going easy on the throttle… it all helps.

Like mentioned above, higher speeds take more fuel. Drag (due to air resistance) increases with the square of the velocity.

I've found a pretty significant drop in fuel economy over 80mph (like a 3 mpg difference between 80 and 85).

2020 Platinum Max with 34,000 miles. We just did a small reunion trip from Edmond, Ok. to Angleton, Tx. 500 miles each way plus site seeing around Galveston, beach driving at Surfside, Tx. and what we called the nostalgia tour of driving around looking at where we grew up. 21.5 mpg with four adults with luggage and I filled up once in Oklahoma and once in Texas. Highway speeds were 65 - 80 except for rush hour in Dallas and Houston. I was very pleased.

When I go over 80 my mpg falls below 20 and usually in the 18 range

I have experimented with cruising speeds of 75-80 mph. 77 mph is about tops for keeping it at 2000 rpm and dropping down to 75 I didn't see any significant increase in MPG. Maybe others can do experiment as well but 77 seems to be the magic number for me with little hard braking or accelerating. I do think the adaptive cruise helps eliminate the hard brakes if watch and sense traffic in both lanes.
The best gas mileage could be attained by feathering the gas to eliminate hard accelerations and coasting on down hills but you really have to like being engaged in the road. I saw a study that a guy had done, cruise vs adaptive driving. It was a car and not a giant brick like ours but he claimed a 3-5 mpg increase over cruise by doing the above. I love driving but sometimes like to look around and just lean back and relax. The EXPY does that well.

2018 4 X 4, HD Trailer Tow, short wheel base, driving 80mpg, 300 miles each way, 3 passengers & luggage. With a estimated 30mph tail wind, computer showed 22mpg. Return trip against the wind, 15.1mpg.
When I tow my 21’ boat at 75mph, typically get about 12 or possibly 13mpg.

On my cross country drive, I noticed MPG dropped significantly over 80mph. I know some places have speed limits that high, but i found staying at 72-75mph got me in the 20mpg range.

Cruise control is terrible for MPG. Way too boost happy!

2018 Limited 4WD w/tow package. Trip to Florida from Iowa, six passengers, loaded with luggage and a large car topper also full. 87 octane. 70-72 mph. Monitor said 21.4, actual 20.3. As usual, monitor was about 5% optimistic… We were thrilled. Our 2003 got 16.1 a few years ago on the same trip. 91-93 octane will get us about 5% more. Keep your speed down. When using cruise control select “Eco” mode and the recovery to speed is much more gentle, saving gas!

I guess I am fairly lucky with my mileage. I get 17-20mph mixed driving (60%highway, 15% county roads, 15% city).

My last road trip I got 23mpg all highway doing 80-90mph from Austin to Fort Worth. The picture says 24mpg but hand calculator said 23mpg.
