Since I've been on here a few months I decided it was time to share a few pics of my beast. I got it last May from the original owner who ordered it special. 2000 XLT 4x4 4.6 v8 Loaded with everything except leather (I guess). It had 87k on it and now has 95k. I LOVE THIS TRUCK! My family thinks I'm nuts because I've got a 99 Mercedes CLK430 that sits in the garage and I drive this. But this thing is too much fun. And yes I drive it downtown everyday and park it in a parking garage. I lost my car 4 times in a week! You can't miss this! :p Anyways so far haven't done too much...a buttload of wax and polishing, new Eagle alum rims, BFG ATA tires (only tires I'd have on a truck IMHO), a K&N air filter and Flowmaster 40 series exhaust. I did replace one of the coil packs when I got it but it seems pretty good. I'm of course debating on a bunch of stuff inspired here by you guys. I don't really want to "pimp it out" but I was to have some fun with it. Looking at a brute force intake and a chip from sniper tuning. Wasted money on a cheapy off ebay! Don't make my mistake! You really do get what you pay for. Anyways, enough of my rantings for the night.

Hi man, some wisdom from someone who's in your position.

I have a 99 4.6L XLT and I love the truck. Only problem is I find it underpowered for towing which I do often. I've done a few things to try to get more, some worked better than others. Heres my findings;

I first got a K&N 77 series intake and it worked pretty well. For the 500 CAD I payed I got a nice sound when I'm pushing it, and a noticable increase in accel at low end speed. She's peppier.

Then I got a Superchips programer for 550 CAD. Didn't really do much. Other than the ability to read and clear codes, it is about the most expensive paper weight I've got. It can be set for premium fuels or 87 octance, either doesn't show any noticeable increase. The only use I'd see it for is removing the speed limiter, changing shift points, and maybe setting to tow/haul performance mode which requires premium fuel for towing conditions. Would of put the money elsewhere.

Finally which I've done recently was Gibson performance headers and a catback swept side exhaust also from Gibson. This combination gave me the best bang, not necessarily for my buck though. It cost me about 1100 US from stylinconcepts.com which is a good website I found for anything really. I had it put in professionally which cost me 800 CAD which included them putting in a new EGR valve. Pricey. But the results ere noticable. You know that lack of power you get when downshifting from ~1500 rpms to ~2400rpms? Well thats gone, now theres a noticeable increase which was never there before. Especially noticeable at highway speeds.

Today actually I pulled the throttle body off and cleaned it up. Especially the EGR inlets which are common to gum up on the 4.6 which mine was quite a bit. I have 170k KM on my truck. I haven't started it as I'm waiting on a part so I can't say on what it improves. I think the idle should smooth a little though.

I also had plugs and wires replaced with the headers.

I have quite a few external mods including a chrome grille guard and LED tail lights which I LOVE the look but are crappy in quality and now need repairing or replacement. :(

Hope this helps some.
