If you want help from Ford it will have to be at a Ford dealer. They won't pay a third party shop that I'm aware of. Also, it will be highly unlikely they cover it without looking at it which likely means paying teardown cost. They might offer some assistance but i wouldn't expect much. As others have stated a used engine is a good way to go even if you have to put phasers on it. You can usually get a warranty on used motors but they typically don't include labor, however the installing shop might offer one if they source the motor and not you.

I would also echo that you pursue speaking with Ford Customer Service/Customer Relations. Catastrophic engine failure really should not happen on a relatively new engine if you can demonstrate proper maintenance. I don't have a precedent other than that we've done the cam phaser repair twice on two different 2018 expeditions. Both were at first retuned, then repaired. One was fixed afterward, and the other had the sound issue return a short while afterward. Doubtful that it would lead to shavings as most dealers defer the repairs and there are a good majority of expeditions and F150s on the road without having performed the repair.
Granted, it's too late in your case, but there are warranties like Ford ESP and other third-party warranties like Endurance that really pay for themselves in tech-loaded vehicles with the highest-tier warranty coverage for 7yrs/100k mi from warranty purchase. Every vehicle we have has the Endurance warranty and no sig issues thus far with coverage.

Unfortunately, you taking the vehicle to a local mechanic and him doing work on it to determine the problem, may have put you in a worse position. If I were you I would have had it towed to the Ford dealership that did the cam phaser work and then contacted for customer support.

You may need a Lemon Law lawyer though. Plenty of them on the internet if you search for Expedition problems. Depending on what state you are in you may have the State on your side too as some states really back the consumer more than others. Hopefully you don't have to take it to that level and Ford/dealer pony up and fix this for you. I agree with the others, failed cam phaser repair led to engine failure.
