So here's the scoop...I have an 06 XLT that just turned 100k. It has recently developed a slight miss or skip. A few days ago I was gettin on it pretty hard and the CEL started flashing and then went out. I believe this is the "catalyst damaging misfire" signal so I was very careful getting it home(less than a mile). I attempted to change the plugs since its got 100k or her. Number 3,4, &8 I could not get broken loose, no matter how hard I pushed, pulled or cussed at it. I decided to take it for a test drive to see if there was any improvement. I got the misfire signal again but this time got CEL 0308. I was thinking the #8 COP so I swapped 7&8 and cleared the code to see if the missfire moved to #7. That was a few days ago and no matter how I drive it, it still has a skip or miss but the CEL has not come back on. BTW, I also changed the oil, filter, airfilter, and fuel filter. Any thoughts or ideas? Is my problem the 3 plugs I didn't change or maybe my COP or both? Thanks for any help and sorry for the long post.

Sounds like a COP issue if the misfire followed the COP.
FYI the plugs need to be changed with a cold engine, I hope you waited.

Yes. I waited til the next day to swap in new plugs. I don't know if the misfire followed the COP...I haven't had any new misfire warning lights or CELs since I cleared the original CEL code. Thanks for the input. Any other ideas?

Thanks. Yeah, all the fluids are next on my list. Im just trying to figure out this misfire PITA. So, what COPs do yall recommend? Stick with factory, accel, or is there something else out there I should be looking at? Thanks.

Here's some info to read through regarding COP testing, it's a good read: http://easyautodiagnostics.com/ford_cop_ign/cop_ignition_ford_1.php
I'm not trying to contradict Freeway just looking for clarification. If you have cracked boots on the COPs you can change those but I have not read any info where replacing COPs is required. Spark plugs at 100K but nothing is mentioned about COPs.

UPDATE: Thanks dougsmcp, great read and a ton of info. I was able to finally get the last 3 plugs swapped out. Apparently that was the problem as the misfire and overall poor performance are gone. Thanks for all the info.
