Hi gang new member here as well as new ford owner. Picked up a 98 ex eddie bauer 4x4 with 107k original miles 5.4 from original owner. Few thing since i dont wanna keep beating a dead horse, but since i have always owned 4 runners, land cruisers and cars what should i have checked out or repaired right off the bat. Now the 4x4 doesnt engage nor the dash light comes on but iv done enough research to fix the prob and the orig owner stated that it had been about 10 years since he switched it to 4x4, a little rust from up north but spent major part of life here in florida and the rear air bag system still works but i notice when i shut off the truck after a few min the rear end starts to slowly drop...is that commen? And any input or advice im all ears. Thanks

:welcome:

Fuse, gem, shift motor, switch, center axle disconnect are all components that effect the 4wd. I would have to say shift motor comes up the most often with 4wd issues on this forum. Been lucky myself never had any issues with the 4wd.

Have no idea about the air suspension. Give it some time sure a member with air suspension will see and respond.

Hi and welcome, I just bought my 2000 Eddie Bauer AWD with 5.4 about 2 mos and 2100 miles ago from local Ford dealer and I see that in prep for the sale they had replaced the 4wd motor on the transfer case, apparently a fairly common problem, also had new front shocks and stabilizer links replaced. Mine has 127,000 on it now and runs and drives like it's new, hope you enjoy yours, ask for gas cards for birthdays, xmas, etc!! I am on the other coast of FL by the way.
