Hello everyone, really excited to have a new vehicle... I traded-in my 2015 tahoe LTZ for this 2020 Expedition XLT with the 202A package and few other extras... I love everything about the vehicle so far except a couple of things..

The engine... it's very sluggish off the gate to me but i came from a V8 5.4L engine to this twin turbo 6c... so maybe i just have to get used to it.

Second, the audio system is worst than in my wife's 11yr old Hyundai...6 speakers?? ugh The test vehicle i drove had a really good sound system with the 202A package but it was a 2019. Well, after much reading, I found out Ford decided to remove the audio upgrade from the 202A package for 2020! :( Bummer.... what have you 2018-2020 expedition owners done to upgrade the sound system... it's really, really subpar for a $62k vehicle! Dealer never mentioned it or offered an upgrade.. nothing.. Thanks. IMG_0320.JPG

Yes, after a hundred feet it goes... but the takeoff... ugh! I'm still getting used to it..

Welcome to the forum! Just got mine last week. A tip on acceleration, I put an AEM air filter in mine and put some octane booster in it (try a tank of 91-93 octane as well) and you should see a notable uptick in launch. I read somewhere especially with turbo motors that high octane gas can provide a +10% HP increase (which is why they use race gas in race cars I suppose.) Also given it's a new motor it may take a couple of hundred miles for it to break in so keep that in mind.

For launching I do this on mine:

  • Put in sport mode
  • Put it in 4H or AWD (if you have that)
  • Lock the rear dif (again if you have that)
  • Turn OFF traction control
  • With your foot on the break rev it to ~2,000 RPM then let it rip.
This should give you our best possible 0-60MPH time.

Hope this helps!

Alex

Congratulations on the new vehicle.
I went from an older suburban to Expy Max 4x4 XLT and love it.
BTW the Expy is way faster than the Suburban. If you want to launch it harder just power brake it a little or a lot to get those turbos spinning.

If you would have the tow package, the gearing would be more realistic for a 6,000 lbs vehicle. I'm assuming yours most likely has the 3.31 gears in it.

Wish you’d joined sooner. We’d have pointed you toward the tow package and once you test drove one you’d get it. You are spot on, without a tow package these are sluggish. Not underpowered, just sluggish.

Hi, thanks for the tips.. I'm not looking to race my expy... and definitely not revving it to 2k with the brake down.. ugh!! Just wanted to make a comment about the sluggishness of this engine taking off... By you suggesting i rev the engine first, means that yes, this engine is sluggish... The tip about it's new and has to break in, i get... we'll see how i feel about it after a few months.

I didn't buy this vehicle for it's power(i bought it because it's roomy), if that was the case, i would've bought a different make vehicle. For such a big suv, it's sluggish and while most people don't care, i do... wasn't expecting this.. thanks

Put it in sport mode...sluggishness gone. My expy didn't have tow pkg, 2wd, and 3.15 and would take plenty v8s off the line esp in sport mode.

Run 93 and push the pedal close to half way down. Turbos need air to spool, especially in the lower gears because the engine isn't seeing any load.

Yes agreed, the highest octane you can find, then sport mode then a bit of gas before launching and you'll get your best result. Sport mode is great, much more aggressive than normal mode. Hope this helps and again welcome to the family. :)

I don't have the tow pack...just put it in Sport and drop the hammer...tow pack or not, it still runs a lot faster off the line than my 5.0 F150 ever did. And it doesn't scream like a banshee doing it.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. i will be doing some of these especially the sport mode on.

On a different note, is there a way to disable the auto start/stop? 4 days in and already annoying... thanks.
