Your background post is almost identical to ours. I had a 2021 Ranger Lariat that was adequate to tow our travel trailer but we decided to get a larger more capable truck. We tow a 7000 lb Jayco with just two of us and 2 small dogs but wanted more capability and room.
Sold Ranger and purchased a 2019 Expy one owner 112,000 miles, from local Ford dealer, serviced mostly by Ford.
First I suggest you get all Ford preformed service repair/service history. Your dealer can print off the entire vehicle history for any work done at any Ford dealer. They may balk by saying previous owners name/address/phone is on the forms but they can easily blot out the info from the paperwork......this will give you a true history of work done.
If records are not available, get ALL fluids and appropriate filters changed.
Make sure ALL buttons/switches/screen prompts work and ALL trans shifting into and out of gears work along with the 4x4 operation and locker rear end.
If records are provided and all work is up to date....fine, but if not Get-R-Done !!!
I was able to get my records and the trans recall had been done and new phasers/chains/ect had been done. As a precaution I had all fluids changed (don't forget brake fluid) and dealer had installed new tires and new brakes/rotors all around prior to putting it on the lot.
Remember....you bought a vehicle with moderate mileage, but NO warranty, so whatever happens now is on your wallet. What we do is put a few hundred dollars a month into a separate account as an alternative to the stupid after market warranties. This accumulates and if repairs are needed the $$$ is there.
Since the purchase last August the Expy, used as my daily driver and our tow vehicle, has logged around 7000 miles, 4500 of that towing our trailer. Towed up thru New England, Maine, Vt, NH, NY without any problems at all. Superb tow vehicle for our Jayco....power and handling are exceptional and my only up-comming plans are to install new shock/springs over the winter.
Also...when towing, obviously, use the tow mode. I always do, and lock out the 9/10 gears....drive in 8th to keep the rpm's up a bit, and in mountains drop down to 6/7th....the Expy breezes along with exceptional power. And, of course....use premium. When not towing I use mid-grade and use the tow/haul even when daily driving. Using the tow/haul makes the trans shift thru every gear as opposed to the regular econ mode which skips gears....not good for the trans.
Good luck with yours....
