Thanks Glenn, fair enough. It is a nice vehicle, but I like the more utilitarian ride and build. Also, the dealer wanted to tack on a "wheel lock" charge. Looking at a 2017 Expy EL today, 138K miles and looks to be in good shape...we shall see. Has the stationary running boards which I prefer, minimal rust as well. The other is a 2016 EL with 147K miles. Both are priced well, so we shall see how they drive and start up! Thanks again!

You should pull a Carfax on any vehicle you are considering. Look and see where the vehicle was originally purchased or leased. If it was from the middle or Southern States are out in Arizona, California, Etc., you should see very little to no rust. There's lots of expeditions out there for sale, well I don't know where you live but where I live there are. And I have a 2012 El and the left side Mainframe from front to back has a fair amount of rust through. The right Mainframe is fine. But I agree with others get it up on a voice and have it checked out in any used car you ever buy you should always have it checked out by a reputable mechanic. I did this all via voice to text so I apologize for any stupid looking errors!
I've been in FL. for 20 years, having moved from Boston. So I've dealt with rust. Since moving to FL I had issues with rust. I live at the beach and have had problems with the brake rotors and calipers on two Expy's and rust on a Ram pick up. It is the salt air it blows in from the coast and gets into everything. Were I looking used Central Texas, new mexico, arizona is where I would be looking.

Thanks Fastcar, you are absolutely right on the Carfax. We pull one on every vehicle and put the VIN into NHTSA. Thanks for all the great information. I really hope either the 2015 EL or the 2016 EL we are looking at today work out. This vehicle search is brutal! Worth it though! Thanks again!

Cat, why are you fixated on the EL? Is there a reason why the standard length doesn’t work?We have had 3 Gen 3’s, still own 2, hauled alot of stuf, people and trailers with them.

Hey Glenn, I am not "fixated" on the EL. I have been looking at both the regular length and EL versions. The EL works better for us, so if I can find one, I would prefer it. We have giant breed dogs (6 of them) so the extra room for them and cargo space is a much better fit. Still, I appreciate your point. We have come close on a couple Expys, but either the dealer did not want to work with us (charging outrageous extra fees like prep and warranty-(not optional for them) or we find all kinds of issues. We will keep searching. Thanks again for all of your great advice.

Well the 6 Giant breed dogs, clearly answers my question. LOL.

BTW, there are a numbers of posts here discussing online Ford dealers that specialize in selling Ford extended warranty's (ESPs) at substantial discounts. You should price the warranty with these dealers first and if the local Ford dealer will price match it (usually not) buy it locally - The Ford ESP provides nationwide coverage at any authorized Ford dealer. You should only purchase the Ford branded Premium ESP. Even then, Ford can screw you around on repairs, but much less likely than with other brands you see advertised on TV, several of which are just straight up rip offs.

This is Ezra, one of my big guys who cost a fortune, not at first, but when he blew out his knee due to undisclosed hip dysplasia. I hope it is okay to post his pic-I did not realize it would be so big a picture! Sorry! lol Anyway, our kids are grown, and these guys need room in the vehicle. You point about the extended warranty is a great idea. Thank you again and again for your helpful advice!

Cute dog! I’m looking at the pic on an iPad 11 Pro and it is sized fine.

Thanks Glenn, Ezra is extra special and needs space since he blew out his knee due to hip dysplasia. (not happy with breeder who never disclosed this!) Anyway, I have a promising possibility on a 2016 Flincoln Navigator L Select that is in really decent condition with 138k miles that we talked down to $12k. Just not sure that I should jump ship even though it is essentially the same vehicle. I prefer the harder more utilitarian ride of an Expedition, but this Nav is really nice and checks all the boxes-minimal rust, all systems operational, regularly maintenance. I would really like your input on this. Thanks!

Cat. Read my previous response on the Navi, Post #20. My thinking response is the same.
