I was recently in Daytona Beach for a couple weeks (not related to the Daytona 500) and figured I'd check Craigslist for vehicles. I've been looking for a vehicle for some time that I can use for towing. I saw a 2004 Expedition Eddie Bauer that caught my attention. I was initially put off by the fact that it was being sold by a towing company but decided, 'what the heck, can't hurt to look'.
It was higher mileage than I would like at 182,000 but it's a 5.4 2V. It was surprisingly clean; only had one minor dent on the top of the driver's side fender; I couldn't find anything that didn't work (all lights, power windows, seats, wipers, washers, etc). I crawled around under it and was shocked at how clean it was, virtually rust free (a huge plus to someone from the rust belt, lots can be forgiven for 'rust free'). It started right up and idled smoothly. On the test drive it ran very well, the tranny shifting well up and down. In the end and for the price, I figured I couldn't pass it up so I bought it.
I had to fly back to Jersey on Saturday. I left the Expedition in Daytona Beach at a friend's house. I plan to fly back down in late March for a week to get it. I'll want to put new tires on it, maybe new radiator hoses and serpentine belt (pulleys?) then we'll see whether I got a buy or not. A thousand mile drive back to Jersey will tell the tale.
I discovered the vehicle certification label and was able to figure out that it has the 3.73 limited slip differential but I couldn't figure out, with certainty, what the transmission code 'W' stood for. I've been assuming it's got a 4R70W but I'm not sure.
I tried to post some pics but there's something I'm missing and, though I uploaded them successfully, I couldn't figure out how to get them into this post. I'll have to find the 'how to' thread to figure it out. If/when I figure it out I've got pictures - if'n youse guys wanna see 'em.
Well knock me down and stomp on my face, the pictures are there! I guess I'm smarter than I thought I was and didn't even realize it.
BTW, I'm Randy . . . in case anyone ever wants to curse my name.
