So i just picked up a used 05 king ranch 4x4 with 115k on the clock. Got it to replace my wifes grand caravan who's tranny is about to let go (big suprise).

Now I got a few general questions.

As far as the 4x4 goes, does the front and rear diff lock when in 4H? What exactly is the Auto 4 High. Don't plan on off roading just wondering if we should put it in 4h or auto 4h for the snow and ice.

Also anyone know if you can get replacement clips for the arm rests? on of the 2nd row buckets arm rest is missing the clip and I am wondering if they sell replacements. If not can i go get a non king ranch arm rest and pull the clip out?

And where can I get cross rails for the roof rack?

Anything I should keep an eye out for. I already gave it a good inspection, everything looks tight, ball joints look good, no weird sounds. 4wd both high and low work with no weird noises. Carfax is good, only thing I don't know is when the last time they replaced the plugs. That will be the first thing I dive into when I get back from this deployment.

well congrats on the purchase. lots of people with the 2nd gen on here. as for the diffs there is no locker in them. maybe a limited slip in the rear but thats about it. and A4wd is all wheel drive. its a system developed by ford for rain or snow driving. it shifts power front to rear and visa versa depending on wheel slip.

Congratulations on the Expy purchase.
On the 2nd Gen. Expy, A4WD means automatic 4 wheel drive. The transfer case is already engaged and if any slip of the rear wheels is detected it immediately locks in the front axles.

I suggest you read through the owners manual if you haven't already. It is quite comprehensive. If you don't have one, you can down load a copy from Here

I can't help you with the arm rest clip, though I would imagine it is the same for all model levels, just different upholstery.

I am also looking for a set of roof rack cross bars that will fit a 2004. It seems that people often remove them to improve hwy fuel economy and then forget when the sell the truck. There must be a lot of unused cross bars sitting in the corner of a lot of garages.
