Hey there everyone,

I have finally gotten back to Ford after dumping 20 years of Chrysler Jeeps and Durangos and am loving it!

I picked up a 98 Eddie Bower and she is great in stock form. I will be adding a lift at some time and other mods to improve its performance.

I do have one question for you guys regarding the suspension, the last owner removed the rear suspension and put coils in, however he left the dead compressor in and the front shocks are still the air shocks.

I just got back from a 600 mile trip on new tires and it is cupping the inside of the tires pretty bad. No pulling and the wear is the same on both sides.

I'm wondering if it is because of a front shock problem, like no air in them.

I used to have a truck with a manual air suspension. Could I convert the front shocks over to a system like that? I work with high pressure air all the time and have the proper fittings and such to make it happen. (I make paintball guns). But I need to know what pressure they need to be set at.

Or should I just put on standard shocks on it?

thanks guys!

Welcome! There is an aftermarket kit that will put standard coils and shocks on the front. I know it comes in a kit for all 4 wheels, but you may be able to find it for just the fronts. That will be your best bet rather than fix the air setup that is there. I'll see if I can find a link somewhere for you.
My suggestion is to buy your lift setup sooner rather than later. No sense going through the expense twice to get a new front suspension.

to update:

I was able to take some 3/16" airline and run it up to some high pressure paintball fittings under the hood. These were connected to air tank Schroeder valves with 1/8" couplers.

I had to rebuild one of the shock airline connectors as the o-ring inside was cut. This leak probably killed the compressor in the first place.

Now for the big question... what pressure to run them at? I put 40 PSI in them for now and it feels really good. Does anyone have any idea what the standard output PSI of the compressor is?

Also could someone measure their ride height for me between the bump-stop and the "A" arm? I'd like to see what others are running at.

thanks for all the help guys..
