I just bought my wife an 07 Eddie B Expedition 4x4. We had the 05 until at 200,000 miles the oil pump got clogged with plastic timing guide debris and FUBARed. I bought a new Melling pump, and all new timing set thinking I was going to fix it, but then a friend decided to sell this one with half the miles and a few better features. I am think of turning the old one into a play toy, but more on that later. My question is....What should I look out for on the 07? Did any of the old engine issues get sorted out, or is it the same old engine and weak oil pump? How about the 6 speed trans?

Welcome to the site...go to the home screen and look in the 3rd gen section...there is a "sticky" that reads "what to look for"...everyone has chimed in on that thread

Same oil pump with a weak backplate from what I know. Trannys went through a few modifications in the gen3s. Its still a 5.4l triton so most of the core issues remain I believe. Check the wiki on the expedition to see some of the differences.

I may install this new pump then with the steel backing plate and the cast iron tensioners then. Better to be safe.
