Yeah, either this or

Either this or a new car with 5 years of payments :smiley-face-popcorn. I suppose I'll take the hit once and enjoy the Expy for another 200k miles.

There are a whole lot of options in between, but I get it. $8k doesn't go far anymore.

I did the same work in my 2010 V-8 Explorer. Chain and gears, phasers, phaser solenoids, chain guides, gaskets. I elected not to change the pump or drop the pan. The rockers (followers) were fine. All is well now, two years later with 170,000 miles on it.

I did the job in the driveway and took about 12 hours over three days. I used Motorcraft parts throughout. The parts bill was about $1,300 three years ago. Figure probably $2,300 today.

I'll keep it another two years or through 200,000 miles or so. The smaller Explorers tend to get a bit more rust than the Expeditions around here, and that's usually their demise. Some things just get too rusty to fix and overall dependability deteriorates.

Hope you see many more happy miles with that white truck.

That's CRAZY!!!! You can get a quality reman engine for around $4k all day from a ton of different vendors, that's new EVERYTHING. That's generally followed by a parts and labor warranty for a couple years. . . . .

By that pricing they are double dipping you for the oil pump labor, the pump is less than $200 and its an extra 20 minutes to replace while the front timing cover is off. . . I'm all for keeping these trucks alive and healthy, but that labor cost is CRAZY! I was able to do it all in my front yard outside in 12 hours with not the right tools. They certanly didnt do you any favors here, quite the opposite IMO.
