As soon as the Expy is back from the installer (getting an infotainment.com sync3 w/ nav system installed), I want to convert my two outboard seats to captains.

To do this, the center seat is removed, armrests installed and a WeatherTech mat installed to cover the middle seat floor bolt holes.

At this point I’m looking for black leather armrests, both left and right. Will post pictures here when the work takes place, so bear with me for a few weeks.

I’m pretty sure the backs of seats are different and you might not be able to install the armrests. I just took out the middle seat and got the husky liner for the 3rd row and it works out great. I don’t see the need for the armrests.

Theyre identical, Ive compared my improvised captains with stock captains....

I pulled off the back of one in my 2014 to find out why there was a different part number for the backrest plate and found out they are actually different as the bench versions lacks the threaded provision the armrests bolt into.

@Dutchie What year is your truck? Go to the www.Fordpartsgiant.com website. I've looked up the armrests on that site and they are available. You may have to create your own mounting system for the armrests or you maybe able to find seats in a junk yard. If the upholstery isn't the right color, you could swap the one from your truck and just make hole in the correct location for the armrest.

Not so fast!! Let me share some valuable experience about removing the 2nd row center seat. Mine got stuck in the UP position and I had to pull it in order to haul some plywood, etc. When I did that, next thing I know I had mice in my truck. One night I was trying to figure out how the heck they got in there. Using a flashlight, I just happened to discover that one of the holes covered up by the middle seat GOES ALL THE WAY THROUGH TO THE OUTSIDE.

Now, this was not readily apparent at first and I never even noticed it when I removed the middle seat. If you look straight down into the hole, there appears to be sheet metal underneath. But, look carefully from the right angle and you can see the driveway underneath the truck.

So, you will need to seal that hole up good to keep weather, moisture, and critters out!

Are referring to the seat bolt holes? I've taken all rear seats out of both my 2003 and 2014 and the only holes to the outside that I saw were the seat bolt holes. I either put the bolts back in (for storage in case ever put seats back in) or put pliable caulking in to seal interior from outside.

Definitely necessary to either reinstall the bolts and plug the alignment hole or plug all of them to keep exhaust gasses, road noise and rodents out. I’ll see if I can find the plugs I used on my 2014 and post the part numbers.

Correct, there are not only bolt holes (at least in the 2nd row), there is also an extra big hole (rcompart referred to it as an "alignment hole") that must be plugged. On trucks that came with 2nd row bucket seats from the factory, I'm guessing Ford put a rubber plug in the big hole.

It has a donut-shaped foam seal that is pressed between the seat rail and the body.

Well, yeah! You plug the bolt holes with the bolts! LOL That still leaves the "special" hole that, unbeknownst to many of us, remains open to the outside world unless sealed/plugged.

Here is that hole in my 2014 EL. I had not sealed it (other than rubber floor mat) but will now put some Gorilla tape over it. Its 11/16" diameter, plenty big for a critter to slip through! Dang critters.

For some unknow reason, the dealer was waiting on a new bezel to come in. Hopefully I’ll get it back this week.
