im gonna switch back to a paper filter. i know my power lose is from my k&n. everytime i clean it its all good for about a week or so. then i have no power. when she warms up. :( but im still gonna keep it. i know out in the desert when its dusty an oiled filter is best. so im gonna keep it with me so when i go out there it collects all the dust. just thought i would share my experience with my k&n drop in. not saying i dont like it. i do. i dont remember if it increased mpg at all, but it dose lack power when shes warmed up. so im hoping its that. its cheaper than flushing the rad out and refilling it. same with changing out my thermostat.

suckd that happened to you panda i went from a solid 12.5 to a solid 14 mpg highway when i put my k&n in. but then agin that was more like backroads driving i was living in a small town called ripley, tn. no trafic so it was good to figure milage. the only problem with the k&n is that yes it is an oil filter that "THE OWNER" maintains so if you over oil its not good and plus it makes you have to clean your maf sensor more often

Clean the MAF more often? I forgot about that.... How often should I be doing that? Gee wiz, I hate taking mine out because the GOTTS mod made everything so tight and hard to put back.

if your cleaning the filter and reoiling it right this should not happen, sounds like yor over oiling it. i put mine in and never cleaned it at all ,it has 70.000 on the filter.

Weird, considering its a drop in. I'd understand you having heat soaking issues with a full intake systems. Let us know how that goes.

i dont over oil it nor do i use a bag in the desert. the problem isnt the oil. its when it gets dirty. and cleaning the maf isnt a big deal for me. ive done it so many times one of the tabs for the big part of the intake broke so i can pop the maf out and unplug it. haha but the problem lies whens i take it off road or when i drive around for a few months and dont touch dirt. its when the filter gets dirty. this last time i cleaned it i got so much dirt out. then i headed to east county where it was 90 degrees. lost a little power, but not as much as i usually would. so i came to conclusion its the dirty filter. and its a pain in the @$$ to clean it every time i go in the dirt. its point less to have to clean it every few months cause i loose power when my engine heats up. its just so frustrating and makes no sense. but i do like it. cause i see what it collects and im like DAM! thats a lot of crap. and again this problem dosent happen when the weather temp is high. its engine temp high. (even though weather dose effect a bit too.)

i could be driving at 4am its cold out and ill still have power lose.

i cant even get my tires to leave marks anymore. maybe cause the fact that they are slicks. but i used to be able to just punch it and leave marks around any and all corners.

so once i get a few bucks ill go buy the paper filter and swap it out. and just leave my k&n in a big baggy or something preoiled for when i do desert trips.

thats weird about the K&N.. mines on all the time and never had a problem and over 25K on the filter... and lately all the farm roads are pure dust like moon dust since it was so dry but filter isn't that bad... usually only clean it 1 or 2 times a year...

see thats what i dont understand. when i first put it on it was GREAT! and now i have to under oil the darn thing and still when it gets dirty its crap. so idk what to do. just trying to figure out why i lose power when the engine is warm. should i be gaining power if anything. idk.
