OBD2 code reader

Really didn't know what section to ask this in

I need a code reader what is everyone using or liking? I have an Edge CTS in my diesel am very happy with it, but I mounted it so that it's to much work to take out and move to another truck, to much money to buy a second one.

I've been looking at the Iphone apps and a blue tooth obd2 plug but there are so many of them I can't decide what's good or not if any.

Anyone have one they like or not?

In my Expedition I have an UltraGauge. It can display up to 8 gauges and costs much less.

I don't have any experience with the Bluetooth readers. What I don't like about them is that to be able to see the gauges, you need to place the phone in some kind of cradle on the dash. Most of the time my phone is in pocket. But for the price and occasional use, they should work just fine.

Thanks had not seen the ultagauge that could work I'm familiar with the scangauge do you have to put in codes on the ultagauge for the pids you want?

it doesn't look like trans temp is available have you had any luck coming up with different codes?

For just getting the codes I use a blue tooth obd dongle and an Android app. Cheap, cheap, cheap and works well enough for code reading.

For it to display trans temp, you have to pay a little extra for them to configure it to read trans temp. I have mine configured to do so. It's not like the ScanGauge where you can program it yourself to display trans temp.

Use an obd 2 bluetooth adapter from ebay and download the Torque and Forscan app on your android phone and bluetooth capable laptop. You can display gauges, graphs etc. with a little practice. And Forscan can bleed your ABS system and diagnose your PATS system.

I have one of those actron pocket scan readers, had it for 10 years now since 96 & still works. Only reads codes though that's it.

Habbibie looks like a good reader still has good reviews might be a good way to go, carry a reader like that then set up for the forscan for like data,,,

I purchased the cheap ebay elm327 mini and it won't connect to my 98 Expedition but works on my chevy . And yes I'm getting power to the elm327 . Any suggestions people!

if your sure that you have power then i'm not sure, I know in the F250 mine stopped working it shared the fuse for the cigar lighter that had blown

I have a Bosch that does ABS as well. I think I spent 119 for it. I should have gone up a step to get the other functions but it works for what I need. I had purchased a windows app with a bluetooth dongle but had more trouble with that than it was worth and sent it back. If you work on vehicles alot just spend the money on a good hand held. They are fast generally work quite well.

I have both a generic Android bluetooth dongle using Torque Pro and the VeePeak wifi for iphone using OBD Fusion. Both are similar and I like them both. They both are very adaptable for guage displays and have the ability to be used as a HUD.

Just read about the Bosch different models I liked it looks like an easy interface

I am still learning how to use all the information that this app can generate. So far I have no complaints.

I use the App Dash CMD and love it. Got a cheap wifi ODB2 interface on Amazon for 10 bucks.
