I did a search to see if anything had been discussed/posted....came back with nothing ..... so will ask.

I know the oil change frequency FROM FORD seems to indicate an oil change and filter every 10K miles. I'm from the 'old school' and even with FULL SYNTHETIC I changed it every 5K-7.5K depending.

I see that Ford uses Synthetic Blend?

What do some of y'all do on oil change frequency?

I don't see any reason to deviate from the factory maintenance schedule. Especially if using full synthetic.

Not sure if the maintenance reminder on this truck is purely mileage based or has other things factored in. Regardless it'll be about the 10K mark when mine goes into the dealer.

With a twin turbo DI engine if it were ME as the owner I’d be changing every 5k with the blowby it gets, thats me. I change the oil and filter with Ford Synthetic Blend stuff in my 07 every 3,500 miles. Mine is recommended every 5,000 miles but oil and a filter is cheap, id rather keep it fresh so i change it often.

The '08 has the same 5.4V8 engine as the '07 and the service interval is 7500 miles vs 5000. Oil and bearing technology is a long way from the pre-oil filter days when oil got changed every 2000 miles. :)

But I prefer the guidance of the internet rather than factory engineers. But even the full synthetic is cheap enough.

I agree they’ve come a long way and It’s your truck whatever floats your boat. Guys change theirs every 10,000 miles and I’ll change mine every 3,500 miles and that’s fine to each their own. At 10k that oil is pretty worn and dirty, at 3-5k it’s still pretty fresh and clean and if changed at that interval keeps it fresh and clean.

I do mine when the computer tells me, which ends up being about every 7,500 miles. Mobil 1 full synthetic 5w-20 and a Motorcraft filter. Except for that one time. But we don't talk about that.

I use whatever synthetic is the cheapest when I go to buy it. Lately it’s been Castrol Magnatec. I change it when the computer reads about 10%

I spend a decent amount of over on F150Ecoboost.net, and they pretty much swear by 5K changes. That being said, one member did a very thorough analysis of his oil (Amsoil 5W-30), and while his initial 3 reports at 2400 miles, 5900 miles, and 8400 miles all showed excessively high fuel dilution (>5%, 5%, and 2.8%), his last two reports at 13400 and 21400 miles both showed <1% dilution and everything else well within spec.
General consensus over there is that oil is too cheap to NOT change it at 5K, even though the oil will clearly be performing fine long past that as long as you use a high-quality full synthetic.
Me personally? I change it when the computer tells me to, and pay a little extra at the dealer for full synthetic. I average 9K between changes, and I’m comfortable with it.

I have the dealer change mine at 5000 miles. I use the Ford Full synthetic. I changed it at 1000 miles switching over to full synthetic and I'm just a little less that 400 miles from needing to change it again. I don't care what the truck's computer says, I'm changing it early.

just reading to read.
every 3k for my old '97 since the oil runs through the supercharger.

my other newer cars go to the dealer when the reminder comes on since I have a prepaid maintenance plan.

1998 Toyota Land Cruiser: ran Mobil 1 synthetic. Changed every 20,000 miles. Traded it in October with just under 300,000 miles for my 2015 Expedition.

That being said, because of the blowby, I won’t be doing insane change intervals on my truck. Max 7500 miles

I’m interested in knowing how he came up with high fuel dilution? How did he do his analysis? Does he work at a lab or did the lab tell him it was fuel dilution?

He sent it in to Blackstone for analysis. They do a breakdown of the oil’s properties and presence of things like silicon and fuel.
