PCV is where to start. I'd look into a compression test either way. A couple quarts of anything in 1K miles is excessive. If you aren't dripping oil then you are burning it, regardless if you see the smoke or not.
Suspect you have a ring stuck or gummed inside its piston groves, which a compression test will show. Have you ever noticed a gasoline smell in the oil you drained out? On any low compression cylinder you can look into removing spark plugs and saturating its pistons overnight in a variety of options. I'd do Marvel Mystery Oil myself. Many concoctions and some are witchcraft, all end with hand turning or bumping the engine a few rotations, then reinstalling plugs, getting it up to normal operating temperature, followed by a fresh oil change. Another compression test on the offending cylinder(s) will tell you if successful or not.
At 175K, its this inexpensive effort or start thinking about a rebuild soon if you elect to keep it.
I've had several new Fords over the years, kept some longer than others, but none have "moved" any noticeable amounts of oil, I've used both conventional and synthetics replacing at the recommended intervals.
