I have two hoses running out of the top of my oil filter. One is leaking oil, the left one. I've gone everywhere to buy this hose to replace it & they all say I need to buy it from the dealership.

Everyone I show these hoses are completely baffled by them & don't understand the development of em.

Can I just buy same size hosing & fix it myself, or should I do the costly option of having it done by the dealership? Can the dealership just sell me this special hose from the parts department. I guess I'll find out tomorrow when I give em a call.

Also the dipstick I can never read any oil on it but my gauges are always in the safe zone.

Any input on my oil leak situation would be greatly appreciated.

Here is the one i got for mine Dorman is a good aftermarket product

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Dorm...ies&fits=Model:Expedition&hash=item4cf637cb71

I'm tempted to go head on into this project and buy the part but I saw a mechanic tonight & he told me that the hose is actually the two hoses and the plastic housing together..??? That's not the problem, the problem is you have to drop the front axle to get to dismantle this part..??

This project seems to complex for me but I'm going to the Ford dealership tomorrow & ask them how much the part is. If the parts & labor is under $250 I'll probably let them do it, but I'd rather save the $$$. I dunno.....

:confused::confused::confused:

shoot the stealership will charge you 250 just to look at it lol

Hah I know right.. They wanted to charge me to run a diagnostic on something I told them I already knew what was wrong and needed fixing. (fixed it myself for free) & any mechanic around me will charge $100 an hour for labor even if it doesn't take an hour. :greenchainsaw:

I'm going to just buy the part then & attempt this project in the morning.

Now the part you showed me has metal fittings on both sides but on the side that runs up into the front has a plastic three way tube thingy. Will this still fit somehow? I hope we are talking about the same part.

Runs from above the oil filter (two hoses almost 2 fingers wide each house) runs to the front then straight up into the 3way plastic piece.

the one i showed you runs from the oil filter housing (behind the bumper)
and runs up to the driver side of the engine held by one bolt on each end and sealed my o-rings

Yeah we're talking about the same piece but when mine runs up the drivers side they go into that 3 way plastic piece as one unit. I wonder if the guy before me modified it that way.

I'm totally lost... :blah:

Sounds good, I'll do that first thing in the morning. Kinda embarrassed of the duck tape job I did. A lot of people got a kick outta that.

Here is 2 pictures where it hooks to the engine, you can see the aluminum lines which are the lines from the oil filter, and the 2 rubber coolant lines as this is the oil cooler as well

in the 2nd one you can see the 2 small bolts that hold the fittings together

Here's what it looks like...

I went to the dealership & they wanted $200+tax for the part..

I asked about fixing my ball joints & control arms, they wanted $600.

if you look at the end at the filter the other end should be identical to it ( the mounting flange)

The second picture doesn't match up though.. What's with that 3rd extra hose attachment in picture 2 also? I'll get back under and check it out..

OK I looked again and from the oil filter that runs up to the driver passenger side into a four way plastic piece. from that piece one hose runs into the engine coolant and one hose runs into the radiator.

That four way peice is the oil cooler you see the hoses in my picture they are on the inside of towards the engine and then there is an adapter for the oil filter lines to run to basically if you take that peice off you can put an oil filter their.

you may have to pull the splash shield off of the drivers side to get a better view

another possibility is some one in the past has made changes to it and who knows what that is going to intail to get it corrected
