For the last month it seems that it doesn't want to shift into overdrive unless I get around 45-50, and then have to let off the gas. When it shifts it's a nice solid bump into gear, definitely not slipping.

Anyone else have this problem? It was doing this before I changed the fluid and filter. The fluid change cured my chattering Torque converter clutch. BTW it's got 150K miles and when I changed the fluid the original knock out plug was still in the pan, so the factory original fluid was still in it.

I'm thinking it's either a computer issue, or a sticky valve in the transmission. The computer issue would possibly be a TPS not giving the right reading? Not likely though.

I have a similar problem

My gear does not change until the revs have reached 3000 rpm and then as you mentioned it changes with a bump. There was no problem earlier but it started after i went for a long drive.

I was thinking that because i stay in Saudi Arabia and the temperatures reach as much as 45-50 degrees C (113F to 122F) could be the reason for this.

I checked the fluid but it is good with the workshop and also got the computer inspection done but it does not show any malfunction of the controls.

If anyone has any idea please inform me.

UPDATE:

I tried adding a bottle of "Trans X" transmission cleaner for the hell of it. After a few miles it worked and the truck's been shifting right into overdrive, even at 40 mph. The bottle of additive says it's designed to clean off varnish and gum deposits to free up valves. The only problem I have with it is that now the fluid's going to get really dirty quickly, and possible lose the viscosity, longevity etc. I'll have to plan another tranny fluid change soon, just changed it last month.

So far it's still a huge difference, much better. However since doing my exhaust system the truck still has a problem kicking in and out of overdrive at speeds below 50. It's extremely sensitive to throttle changes and dumps out of overdrive if you sneeze. Once above 50 it's back to normal, but the drop in vacuum is just enough to make it sense a heavy load all the time. I'll have to get with VMP Tuning to make some adjustments, it's not good to have it kicking in and out of OD, especially with 152,000 miles.
