overwhelmed...need some help!

OK so I've just opened the box of my K&N CAI and am completely overwhelmed. Lots of doubt as to whether i'm going to be able to do this now.

Tools needed:

small flat blade screwdriver (assuming they mean flat-head, got it)
Flat blade screwdriver (as above, got it)
Vise grips (huh?)
15mm wrench (don't have it but can pick it up at local store)
7/16 wrench (as above)
11mm socket (have it)
5mm allen wrench (nope, need to buy it)
Pliers (got it)
8mm socket (got it)
Ratchet (got it)
Long extention (got it, i think...would have come in the socket kit?)

So here lies the problem...I'm such a noob I don't even have half the tools I need for this, plus even the 4th step in the directions (remove the idle air control and the crank case vent hose from the stock intake tube) is Chinese to me.

I don't know what an idle air control is
I dont know what a crank case vent hose is
I don't know what the stock intake tube is

Nevermind the rest of the directions which I'm totally lost with too. Thinking now this is a very poor idea as I'm

a) going to completely screw this up
b) break something
c) do it wrong and hurt the engine
e) not know how to put it back together and end up with a truck I can't drive

Not a happy camper right now. Maybe I should just stick to the stuff I know and not try and learn new tricks as an old dog.

So i'm told but staring at all the shit in the box its like "uh-oh" plus I don't know what half the terms mean in the instructions....

the stock intake tube is what your are replaceing, it runs from the airfilter to the throttle body...

the crackcase vent hose runs from one of the valve covers to the intake hose...

the idel control motor i don't think you should have to touch install a CAI...

you will have to deal with the MAF sensor thou

Done....with a little (lot) of help from the guys down at Advanced Auto Parts. I'd have been screwed without them. Had to cut tubing in order to make the bracket for the enigine cover fit back, skip the 3rd bracket for the CAI all together (I'd have thought I'd done something wrong there) etc etc so not as simple as everyone made it out to be, but i learned a lot so next time maybe i won't need AS much help...

Right off the bat i could feel the difference with the CAI. Much better pickup, more torque and the noise is great!! yay!

Damn Black Expy - did not realize you lived here in the "burg" - I would have stopped by and gave you a hand. Interested to hear your feedback on it. I used a Volant (different type of CAI) on my older F150 and did not notice a significant difference (or so I thought) until I took it off to trade it in. When I took it off - it was like I had lowered the tire pressure 20 lbs. Glad you got it done and look forward to hearing your thoughts on it, Mike.

plus lets see if this video clip uploads. I took it with my iphone right after the install. Took the truck out on the highway to see how it felt. If you turn the volume up you can hear the sweet noise when the RPMs kick..

How's the power feel?... -- My drop in seems to finally be breaking in (if you can call it that?)... responsiveness is coming back (at times)... Maybe a little bump in milage too? don't know yet but 110 miles on a 1/4 tank in mixed driving seems pretty good to me?

what year is your expy? the engine cover looks alot different than mine. and like sol said not sure y u had to cut and skip a bracket. when i did mine it was straight forward. take off original and put k&n on. plug hoses back on and go.

2004. We had to cut the hoses to fit, and we didn't need the "bracket" that was included in the kit because the intake slotted right in, plus there wouldn't have been anywhere to mount the extra bracket (it was too short to mount). Plus we had to trim the plastic on the...the....sheet I don't know what it was but it was getting in the way of the bracket which secured the engine cover back on, so we clipped it.
